CoronitaParticipantI think it’s more ironic that some people show more sympathy when they hear a dog or cat getting run over on the freeway than someone dying in a car accident.

CoronitaParticipantI think an M3/M4 or Porsche would help… Sort of….
Kinda hard to keep up with them in an almost stock 1st gen miata, even with decent tread (Driver skill improvement wouldn’t hurt either)…Driver mod first, bring a bigger gun later…
CoronitaParticipantOk… So regarding the panhandlers. Are all panhandlers druggies and con artists?
If the answer is no, then I’m curious….
If “welfare” is abused by some (which it is), should then we eliminate it completely too?
CoronitaParticipantLet me reverse the question a bit…
People probably don’t have an issue donating $1-5/month to feed someone hungry in another country.
Or to drop a $1-3 donation in the mall at the register when the store is raising money for something (breast cancer week, etc, etc, etc)…But on your way to the shopping mall (say fashion valley), where you plan on spending money that day, do you bother to drop $1 with the guy/gal pan handling at the traffic light? If not, why not and what’s the difference?

I could see some parents getting upset when the child changes status to “in a relationship” without first informing them.
For their own sake, needy people should stay away from Facebook.
Well, this post really is you brian1.
Told ya!

CoronitaParticipant
Need more info.
Could be a hate crime.
Could be desperate cost saving measure.
I love the wall St journal but am too cheap to buy it. But I wouldn’t steal yrs. Maybe u could save old copies for me?Or give him a months worth in a big box kind of crumply?
Well, technically, I don’t pay. I just use about to be expiring miles on some of airlines that I rarely fly anymore to get 6 months of subscription, and do it over and over again…But still, it’s kinda annoying…Makes me want to go to a paper machine, stick a dollar in there, and empty all the copies out… just kidding…..
CoronitaParticipant
Many lawyers hate rules.
I hate to read and write long things…. I just dread things like writing self-appraisals for performance reviews and writing other’s performance reviews…Not that I don’t like encouraging people to be better at work… Just that I just don’t like to write….
CoronitaParticipant
Thanks for the tips and comments,
I talked with my kid yesterday….before, he never wanted to change schools but now seems like he would do anything to better pursue his interests…not that we have nailed them down exactly… he says he likes architecture. We don’t necessarily we have all options at our disposal…but it is a good start….it’s fairly natural on his part.I don’t want to chase something and have him lose track of math or physics. That has been said to be a problem with some of the schools dedicated to “creativity”.
About age, it will vary by kid…My kid was very interested in the little mindstorm activity that parents and children can do together at Legoland when he was barely old enough by lego standards, I think that was 7 or 8 …my wife may have talked them in to letting him and me go in before the age cutoff(mom’s are good at that stuff). We rushed to sign up for that every time we go to the park after that. He was 9 when we got him in a one week camp and he was crazy about that too. If I remember right, most of the kids were older. That was with the YMCA. If his parents were in the field(s), he probably would have been way more supported in it earlier, but unfortunately we are not, although I do understand electricity and electronics pretty well( well with some review).
I wouldn’t worry so much of, as long as your your kid has interest.
Kid with interest + with parents that don’t have a background is still > kids with parents that have the background but aren’t interested 🙂
FWIW: to this day, I still hate physics…It would be 2nd from the top of the list of things I hate.
The only thing worse for me would be biology….I have a bad memory, and hated biology even more. One of the many reasons why I couldn’t ever be a doctor…. … Well, while I’m at it, I guess I’ll admit, in general I hate to read and follow directions….So I guess I can rule out legal professions too. lol… I survived AP English through the cliff notes version…..
CoronitaParticipant
What is the point of having children if you can’t control them forever?
So they can buy you a porsche when they are older, after you send them a tab of everything you paid for them…plus interest…..
CoronitaParticipantI’d be careful about the craiglist lowpriced advertised rentals…
More than often, they are either
1. Trying to capture as much interest as possible so the landlord can pick and choose tenants that inevitably ends up paying much higher
or
2. Trial posts by future landlords to test just how much demand there is at a given price point.. (Hence you’ll never hear back from them if you send them an email)
CoronitaParticipant
Ok. I was just thinking out loud. I guess it’s not too objectionable.
He really doesn’t miss us at all. Not one iota. He has his complete own life going on. It Is really really distressing. I served a purpose but he’s on his way except for money. It seems sad to glimpse in on fb. But maybe it’s ok.
No worries, he’s probably just preoccupied with is GF right now….
When I went to school, I bought my dad a bumper sticker. It said “My son and my money go to *** school”
CoronitaParticipant
If you want to get your kids into coding (or learn yourself) both Khan Academy and codeacademy.com have free tutorials.
I’m lusting for the EV3… I coach a FLL robotics team and this year about 1/3 of the teams had the EV3. We’re still using a mindstorm.
The arduino boards mentioned in the link Russ posted are also very cool. My kids class had some purchased for them by the non-profit foundation that supplements what the school district can’t afford.
There are lots of opportunities to get kids into programming.
Russ – I hear you on the minecraft and legos. I’ve been telling my kids to learn programming in order to make new mods to minecraft… That’s the cool think about minecraft – it’s user modifiable. So you have pokemon mod-packs, hunger wars mod-packs, etc… All coded by fans of the game.
UCGal, when did your kids first get involved with mindstorm? Just figuring out what what is a reasonable expectation of when to start, if there is interest…..
CoronitaParticipant
How is it different from reading a diary he leaves on the couch? Wouldn’t that be wrong?
Completely different concept..
See… People have a diary, they rarely share it out there in public for others to read….
A facebook account that is out there in public is screaming “read me”…
If your “kid” doesn’t mind posting every minute detail if his and his GF’s life for the public to see, why would should you self-exclude yourself when some pseudo-random person can see the same thing(s)? Since when did being a parent means being less informed than what your kid is willing to share with some random stranger?
CoronitaParticipant
Not worried about anything.
Kid is over 18.
Just curious.
Wrong?
Nothing wrong if you don’t get caught. Open an anonymous account 🙂
