CoronitaParticipantdisgusting yes… but equally disgusting is his mistress.
Side question: as disgusting as this person’s viewpoint is…I’m curious, what’s up with the tape recording of a conversation without consent?
CoronitaParticipant
In this regard I think CA is kind of like NY.
People and companies in general don’t migrate domestically anymore into CA or NY.They start here (emigrate here).
In the spirit of wealth building in CA and NY, I’m trying to be more of a paper pusher these days in building wealth versus actually doing “labor”(“engineering”). Pushing paper seems a lot easier….And I feel like being lazy these days…I’ll let you know how it ends, one way or the the other 🙁
CoronitaParticipant
Funny how we seem to dwell on the companies who choose to leave but not those who choose to stay:
http://fox5sandiego.com/2014/04/10/petco-to-move-headquarters-rancho-bernardo/#axzz30HYnz2X2
“U-T San Diego quoted the state Office of Business and Economic Development as saying that Petco turned down offers to move to other states.”
If San Diego / California was really doing that poorly, housing prices wouldn’t be jumping.
Another gauge I use: I have two college age kids and neither has had a problem finding part-time jobs while in school.
CA isn’t doing poorly (yet)…. But I would be more interested in seeing which companies are relocating into CA though 🙂
CoronitaParticipant
The only problem with L.A. is it is spread out all over the place.
Your next job is always going to be 40 miles away no matter close you live to work today.and it will be in a far flung suburb (not in the City).
In L.A. at least, it’s the Burbs that are the real story.
The whole county is just a collection of far flung burbs.
Just wait until Tesla starts thinking about making cars in China…….
Oh wait…
http://gas2.Org/2014/04/21/tesla-model-s-made-china-3-4-years/Well, look on the bright side… At least Toyota’s jobs still stay in the U.S…
One thing I learned from the fiasco at costco, is moving forward most Bridgestone tires bound from the U.S. are no longer going to be sourced from Japan…..but will be mostly from their factory Mexico
CoronitaParticipant
Not quite, They are not even close to the largest employer in that area.
There is the big refinery, a lot of import/export and shipping etc….
It is quite Diverse as far as employment, it will be a big hit no doubt though.
As far as the rental market, I know someone who has several large apartment complexes in the area.
They are doing very well, never vacant long.I would not worry too much about it.
Would you pick up and move to Dallas ?
Think about it.
My point was if you had deals with relocation people that specifically placed ex-pats from many companies like Toyota that rotated their employees from overseas, for which
(1) the ex-pats stayed for 2-4 years on rotation
and
(2) the company paid for all the rental during the entire duration of their stayIt was the easiest way to be a landlord for the long term, when the rent was guaranteed by companies like Toyota….Better than owning small attached rental properties in Mira Mesa with the plethora of responsible, higher paid tech workers from the Q and likes…. That hat-trick (in Torrance) is now going going going gone…
CoronitaParticipant

Really you’re finding stuff that can be financed at today’s rates and prices and still be positive?
Nope. Just using my heloc at 3% for 20 years….
Is it a fixed rate or variable rate HELOC?
20 year variable pegged to prime -.25% with the maximum capped @ 6%
CoronitaParticipantAN, it’s not surprising.
Before then, Hyundai already moved their offices…
And before them, Nissan already moved their offices as well. The problem is that it really doesn’t make sense for Toyota to have headquarters in CA when manufacturing is in another state, and Toyota hasn’t been able to make headwind into building on manufacturing in CA with both the cost of labor and cost to to business, more stringent regulations, and the incentives/bones that other states throw at them.
I think we’ll probably see the wealth gap get even bigger in CA, over the next decade…
FWIW: I’ve seen a change in the area around Torrance. About 10-20 years ago, the are was filled with companies with japan that rotated their ex-pats in and out of that area… It was the easiest rental market to be in… Fast forward today… Many of those said companies are moving/relocating.. and it’s not as good as it was before…The demographics have definitely changed….
You did get the previous post about Websense and ActiveNetwork being relocated out of SD?
CoronitaParticipant
Really you’re finding stuff that can be financed at today’s rates and prices and still be positive?
Nope. Just using my heloc at 3% for 20 years….
CoronitaParticipantI’m out vlo today…
$57.75
VLP is $42.. Drat…
Me thinks the markets are going to rally and I never outperform the index funds consistently when the markets are rising, so me thinks I’m going to exist my own positions and get behind more indexes the next dip….
Time to pay down the loans on my recent rental that was 100% financed lol…

CoronitaParticipantI like Costco’s optometry department.
They take VSP for filling the prescription glasses, and even though the coverage for Costco is reduced for Costco, the frames at Costco are pretty inexpensive, and unlike other optometry places I went to, they lenses are pretty inexpensive and includes polycarbonate+antiglare+antiscratch…
I rarely wear glasses, so I don’t need something that is fashionable. I was able to make it out of the optometry department recently with a decent pair of glasses + a clip-on sunglasses for about $20 out of pocket, which isn’t bad considering the normal place I go to I haven’t been able to get something comparable under $80 out of pocket…
The photo department is ok if you know what sort of machine they are using, and ask what setting they have going…Then you can calibrate you digital photos before sending it to them….
I skip the food and free samples generally… Looks like I’ll be skipping the tire dept too 🙁

CoronitaParticipant

But looks like I won’t be going back there for tires again, either for my X5 or the 550, and they don’t stock the tires I like the miata or the A4 the C320 for which I don’t care about the rims….
A bit of advice. It’s hard trying to be pretentious but one of the rules (in the top 15) of the pretentious handbook is to never admit you shop at Costco, you are just too good for that!
Remember what the coach told you to repeat when you are in these serious situations like this “people like me”.
I actually like costco for everything else. Generally, really good service. I don’t care whether it’s hip or not….And frankly I could care less about car brands or labels, though I admit lots of people buy cars for no real value but the label…
But, as a business, if you’re going to advertise that you can do job X (like changing tires), the assumption here is you can do so without damaging customer rims…It’s really not that hard….
Or if costco simply would have said “sorry, we don’t work on cars with alloy wheels that will scratch with our tools/mounting service”…That’s fine too. I would go elsewhere that would most likely price match costco’s prices anyway. Or I would have bought the tires, and mounted them elsewhere… Probably should have done so, but I thought it would be convenient…
Apparently not…Oh well…Lesson learned..

CoronitaParticipant
I’m pretty sure I lost a few lug nut covers at Costco, but when i didn’t first notice the first one gone before leaving they told me after calling them later that they didn’t have them. So now they are all gone and I don’t have to care anymore about them forgetting to put them back on. I figured someone there must be selling them on Ebay. I’m not picky enough to go buy new ones for a 12 year old car.P.S- for our Miata we go to Discount Tire, got rid of the run flats as they were too expensive and gave a rougher ride.
Noted…..

CoronitaParticipant
Wait a sec, do I understand you correctly you have a 550i flu?
Yes and no, but rather not go into it right at the moment…
