CoronitaParticipant
Stop it flu.
Don’t listen to what flu just said. That’s garbage talk. MM is a horrible place to buy, investment or otherwise. It’s the ghetto and people get shot all the time. It also have way too many walls, infested in lizards, and is unbearably hot during the summer and unbearably cold during the winter. Don’t buy in MM unless you want to lose your $.
Oh shit. Sorry you are correct. Yeah, what he said. Mira Mesa is a terrible place. You don’t want to be there too. Horrible.. To many questionable characters like AN. Don’t buy there too. Not good area to invest. Sorry my bad…
CoronitaParticipantHere’s my recommendation for you. Go buy sfh in Mira Mesa right now. You should be able to afford that easily with cash. Your wife most likely will object, but give her all the projections and data we have about MM growing and up and coming and its a great long term investment for the next 5 years, when you can turn it into a rental when you are ready to move into Carmel valley. Your kid isn’t old enough to take advantage of the public schools in Carmel valley now anyway, so she will most likely want to send your kid to a Montessori preschool, like most other Asian moms want to do. So you have 5 years you can wait to see if home prices or inventory normalizes. You can pitch that with appreciation in MM likely, you can even sell the home 5 years later and capital gains is taklx free up to $500k. See, when you talk you your wife, you need to talk it with terms she understands. Finances and money.chances are she understands numbers very.well, and if you explain to her your plan, she will understand that Mira Mesa is a great opportunity in the short term and great.investment for the long term, with Carmel valley in 5 years time down the road.

Phew… For a minute there I was worried you were going to complain about us generation X douchebaggery that enjoy pissing people off.
no – all of this commentary is towards the boomers. we think they are fussed about my wife being asian and our kids being halfsies.
Dude, this is SD, not the deep South. Your halfsies ain’t that special. There’s one at every street corner.
Yeah, like my brother in law and my nephew and niece. Lol
CoronitaParticipant
i call a spade a spade, and CV is THE bourgeois location in SD.
And like I said, depending on how Asian your wife is, you are going to end up buying in Carmel valley one way or the other. That probability increases exponentially the (for the lack of better word) FOBier your Asian wife is…. I bet that’s why you are in this location right now. I am sure you had very little in the decision making process. Am I right?

Lol. If your wife is Asian, than you are definitely going to be in Carmel valley one way or the other. You are screwed. That is if you want to stay married. End of discussion. Get use to be the new white chinaman. Don’t worry, I am sure your wife will need to find a nice violin or piano teacher soon, and I know of a lot in Carmel valley. Because that’s what Asian moms want for their kids.
CoronitaParticipant

I like Carmel Valley haters. I wish there was more of them, so more people would GTFO so I could buy a bigger place at a more reasonable price.
Can we get some La Jolla haters too!
Great post Flu!
and herein lies the real issue. CV is not LJ, yet the ‘tude of the residents would have you thinking it is.
oh yeah, i must have a place where my neighbors drive BMW’s LOL. what a fucking joke.
Yeah, but if you think Carmel valley is expensive, you definitely wont be able to afford la jolla. At least not if you want to live in a reasonable sfh. Sounds to me you are in what I call: Poor rich….
You are too snooty and think you are too good for solid middle class neighborhoods with good construction but less than optimal location. So you want to be in a premium location with a premium house because you think you are rich and should be able to afford it, when in reality current housing market conditions doesn’t allow you afford the house you feel you should be able to buy because perhaps your wallet doesn’t go as far as you think it goes.
Hence your predicament of not being able to buy a house. Reality hasn’t set in, that given the current market conditions, you aren’t going to be able to find a house that meets your high standards in a premium location with your wallet size.
The funny part is you call others snotty. Lol…
Enjoy renting. And good luck with your home search. It will be a long and painful one for you I am afraid.
CoronitaParticipant

I’m not surprised that you don’t want to live in a house with a back yard that faces on a busy road (that will probably get busier in the future). Maybe you’re confused, but no one ever said that CV is utopia. It’s got great educational opportunities (CCA ranks #89 in US News and WR ranking), relatively close to the beach and pretty convenient commute-wise. But there are lots of unappealing houses; these tend to have lower prices. As I said earlier, I think you are frustrated at what your budget can’t buy.
oh yeah, i’m so frustrated. i can’t afford a home here. boo hoo. looks like CV is too good for me. WAAAAA WAAAA.
Flu will be pleased. One less potential CV buyer. And just for the record – the average CV home price is about $950k. You just can’t take being average – you need a gorgeous place on a huge lot. Boo hoo..
Sigh. See what I mean about “new money”? Just goes to show, you can have a lot of money but not necessarily a lot of old money class 🙂
Well got to go hope in my bimmer SUV, need to go pick up my latte from starbucks, drop off the monthly check for the violin teacher and swim teacher and art teacher and dance teacher, before I head on over to Bay Club, where I’ll pretend to work out with everyone else there also looking pretty swanky. And then maybe when I am done, I’ll show up at work around 10am.
CoronitaParticipant

Classic flu. lol.
Having resided in CV, I can understand how some who have not lived there might have the impression that CV residents might be unapproachable, but we never found that to be the case.
shhh. here’s a secret. i live in CV.
here are 3 examples of entitled baby boomer douchebaggery towards my family in CV:
“i can’t believe they are actually feeding their child macaroni and cheese” said an old pricey bitch just loud enough so that we could hear it from across our table as we were spooning in the #1 kids food ever in the history of time at a restaurant.
“i don’t think your son’s old enough to understand fashion photography” said an old humbug CV denizen passing by in the park as i was trying to take a photo of my own child for my own enjoyment using a speed light with a modifier on top to combat the harsh sun.
“…[creepily stares at us for 20 minutes without saying word]…” did a complete wierdo with his dog after walking up to the playground and sitting at a bench by himself while we played on the slides. GO ANYWHERE ELSE, LOOK AT YOUR PHONE OR WHATEVER, OR JUST SAY SOMETHING.
Phew… For a minute there I was worried you were going to complain about us generation X douchebaggery that enjoy pissing people off.
CoronitaParticipant

I love your sense of humor. 90s tract palaces is right. Updated with the Tuscan Ironworks and crown moldings
You may end up living in one, you know
HA! that is the said truth. i am cursed to a life in CV with all of the audi-driving-fuckfaces.
You and spdrun should get together. You guys I am sure would get along just fine. You can probably give him advice on how to find a wife too, since I think you mentioned you have one.
CoronitaParticipant

Do you want to vent your opinions or actually get info? My sense is that you are frustrated that you can’t get what you want where you want it.
here’s one that is in budget in CV that just got listed. MEH. chinaman can have it.

Shucks. One less Joneses down the street that will be moving in, HELOCing their home to death to buy useless bling, only to have to sell short later to the Wongs, Kwons, and Yamamoto’s who end up buying it with cash.
CoronitaParticipant

As an owner of an out of warranty 5 series, my advice is stay the hell away. Mine is 10 years newer and is not my daily driver, plus I do most my own maintenance and my advice is the same. It’s similar to an aging 50 year old divorced and unemployed former trophy wife, high cost to maintain and unrealistic expectations of maintenance to value ratio.
At that price point, go American or Asian purely for the maintenance costs. If you dislike Lexus, look at Infiniti, costs less and performs better. In a totally different price range, the future Mrs. TG just got a 1 year old Cadillac ATS and I’m envious. While it’s 3 series in size and too small for my over sized body, I’m totally impressed and 5 years from now when I’m undoubtedly fixing something, I love the ease and cost of repairs. Now I’m not a fan of caddies pre-2012, their latest stuff feels underrated. A few years from now, when I finally get angry enough to part with the beemer, I’ll look at at a 1 to 2 year old caddy, but maybe that’s just because I’m getting old.
Old guy in a Cadillac just seems so cliche it’s verging on hipster. Have u heard of normcore. Hipster young kids are dressing like suburban dad’s and wearing mom jeans ironically. Your Cadillac could be normcore, if you choose. Or it could just be an old guys car
I’d like to be the old guy with the porsche. One day. Now that’s a cliche I can live with
CoronitaParticipantI guess that doesn’t really matter anymore since most of everything is made in china now. Even Sony things. And volvos
CoronitaParticipant
My 2012 Honda had the good manners to have my battery die in my driveway on a weekend so I could go get a new one easily.
I picture a BMW being more rude. Actually I think German cars actively want to get jews. .
Well, with that logic, Asians shouldn’t be buying Japanese cars. At least the Germans apologized for their war crimes. Old Japan is still trying to deny and rewrite history as if the Nanjing massacre never happened.
CoronitaParticipant

having a family in a condo is like eating a bowl of nails for breakfast every day.
i like the idea of going cheaper, fixing up, and then doing private school. if only i had any patience.
update: plenty of garbage coming online in CV. or, if you prefer, there are some more “90’s tract palaces” getting listed. my lord, doth reach one’s arm out thine window and touch thy neighbor’s 90’s cardboard home.
i get the feeling Le Bourgeois in CV are in for some price reductions if they want to move product. must be a slow month for the chai knee buya
Do you want to vent your opinions or actually get info? My sense is that you are frustrated that you can’t get what you want where you want it.
I like Carmel Valley haters. I wish there was more of them, so more people would GTFO so I could buy a bigger place at a more reasonable price. Like I said before, must be too many walls and lizards. And any day now, I’m sure there will be 40-50% price correction just like nay-sayers predicted would happen back in 2008-9…Oh wait, never mind….
SD Realtor, remember that townhome Crest Del Mar that was sold around $620k back in 2005-6? One almost identical to it just closed at $645k recently. Yup, even condos are selling above peak.
I’m use to paying a lot for a stucco box. In the bay area, you pay a lot for a really old house that the builder didn’t even bother to finish with stucco, and left it looking like unfinished wood panels, at $600+ a square foot.
So please, just ignore the seasoned professionals in this area, the convenience factor, the schools, etc. You’re right. It’s expensive and overpriced to live here, and probably not something you really want to do.
Your kids will grow up to be weak and sensitive, especially since the school district implemented recess rules like no playing tag during lunch, no football, no full court basketball, no stealing the basketball in a game, two hands on parallel bars, no sitting on the grass, no cart wheels on the grass, no handstands, etc, etc, etc. Because obviously, kids will get hurt.
And you don’t want to be pestered all the time with donating to the DMSEF or the PTA…Donate this, donate that, donate this… Or you don’t want to get so fed up with it that you end up living in Carmel V and send your kids to private school like in LJ Country Day or Bishop M, like many people do.
And we really dont want any more snotty people in this area. There are already enough snotty, pretentious people in this area, and we don’t like competition to see who can be even more snotty and pretentious. You know, the difference between us old money versus a lot of the “new money” that we just don’t get. We like conformance. We like our “old money” families of doctors, lawyers, dentists, and engineers with a boatload or stock options that can enjoy the rest of their lives “resting and vesting”. Why? Because we enjoy seeing doctors/lawyers/vested stock option holders trying to one-up each other into seeing just how high people are willing to bid up home prices. And now, with 3 out of 5 buyers being asian in this area, it brings “one-uping” to an entirely new level. For your first $1million, bring cash or go home. Anything else above that, yeah sure, take out mortgage.
And frankly we’re sick and tired of seeing people pay an arm and leg for a house, and then seeing them park the shittiest car on the driveway and filling their homes with the cheapest furniture from Ikea. Dude, if you’re going to pay over a $1million for a home, at least park a decent car on the driveway. Not your run of the mill toyota corolla or honda civic. What is this? Mira Mesa???? That’s the one thing I like about Carmel Valley, BMW’s are a plenty like Honda Accords.
Carmel Valley, where a “need” is a BMW or Porsche and a “want” is a Ferrari, and where 9 year olds have the latest iPhone’s and worry about if they are going to get a GoPro camera for christmas, and that’s if they did well at their swim meet in their private swim class, and soccer game in their private league, and instrument recital with their private instructor.
Pay no attention to those that rave about the commute convenience. It’s overrated. 10 minutes to Sorrento Valley during peak hours. Pff. Lie…It’s closer to 12 minutes…. Going to Rancho Bernardo. That will totally suck… 19 minutes during peak hours, limited by how many tickets you can budget into your yearly allowance on 56 and 15. Yeah, pay no attention to stop and go traffic in the opposite 56 west traffic inbound in the morning, I’m sure that’s just an anomality. Carlsbad? Sucks even more 22 minutes during peak morning time…Oh, just ignore the I-5 southbound nearly crawling to a stop around 8-8:30 in the morning….Again, commute times are overrated. Besides, if you live in Carmel Valley. What job? You work? Pffff…I thought anyone who is anything is semi-retired!
So yeah, GTFO and find a home elsewhere.
As some suggested, I’m sure El Cajon and Chula Vista are much better buys for the money. You might get shot once or twice, but with the money you save, you can buy a BMW X5 Protection with bullet resistant windows and light armor, as you transport your kid(s) to the private school 40-45 minutes out of the area everyday for the next 15 or so years. And think about how much money you will save!
