ParticipantI remember Johnny Downs also. I was very young but I seem to remember going to see him at the outdoor theater in Balboa Park in a production of “The Wizard of Oz”. Am I remembering correctly?
Also, how old do you have to be to remember playing on the big dinosaur in the sand box at Mission Valley Center?

Participanthff, how much do the units rent for? Does your rent come anywhere near justifying the $800K price, or even the $649K?
Also, do you know what percentage of the units are owner occupied?July 14, 2007 at 6:06 PM in reply to: neighborhood sentiments on foreclosed houses and buyers #65930citydweller

ParticipantThe picture on the mls shows a mustard yellow colored house. I wonder if it’s a lot split. The $780K purchase price may have been for both units, and now they are being sold separately.

ParticipantThe article in today’s Union Tribune said that the unions required only that Gaylord hire local workers, they did not require that they hire union labor. Does anyone know if that is true? I know the Union Tribune doesn’t always get it’s facts straight.

ParticipantI get the impression that Gaylord is just using the unions as an excuse to get out of the deal. With a possible recession ahead, a project that large would be pretty risky right now. Also, where were they going to get the financing to build it? With credit tightening their lenders may have been backing out.

Participantun,
I read a great book last year that expands on your comment that profit takes priority over all else in todays heavily corporate world. It points out how common decency is being lost, and being successful is now synonymous with having money (or the appearance of having money). When parents describe their grown children, the ones making lot’s of money will be labeled “successful”, with very little importance being placed on whether or not they are actually happy. The book is called “Is the American Dream Killing You”? It was a good read.
The greed and corruption (and lack of common decency) that have been discussed in relation to this recent housing bubble are perfect examples of what the book points out.
Unfortunately, it didn’t really go into detail about how to improve things.

ParticipantPD, I agree with your post. I wonder if there is some way the off topic forum threads could be listed somewhere other than under the “Active Forum Topics”.
I really enjoy reading what Piggington people have to say about politics, etc. but I do agree that it does take away from the purpose of this blog.
PS – In the meantime, I promise not to start or contribute to anymore OT threads.

ParticipantZB,
Which one is Zander? I have seen pictures of 3 different types of dogs. One that looks like a black lab, and 2 that kinda like bull dogs.
Thanks
