[CBad]

We are thinking about doing something similar with my in-laws sometime in the next few years. We don’t have an exact time table because my mother-in-law won’t move until her parents pass away (in their 90’s).

Our situation is more difficult though because of their restrictions. They have always lived in more rural areas and don’t want to live anywhere near neighbors. So we would have to find something with a minimum of 1 acre. We don’t want them TOO close to us anyway so we’re thinking somewhere more inland and rural. They have lived though the heat of the summers back East their entire life so I’m assuming they can handle our inland climate.

We would be buying the house though and they would be paying us rent. My husband has a brother and he wouldn’t be involved in the deal. We would get the house when they die obviously and whatever other assets they had would be split evenly. When they sell their house back East they would just live on that $ through their retirement.

Hmmm, I like Ramona. A good friend of mine’s mother has a newish vineyard there and I’ve helped out with the planting and harvesting the last 2 seasons. Personally I either want to be at the beach or somewhere Ramona-like (or more remote) on lots of land far away from neighbors.

TG, I DO have an older sister and she is hawt but sorry she is technically married too. I say technically because she is just holding on until her oldest is 18 and then she is out. I’ll give you her phone number at that point! She is a sucker for a funny guy just like me.

Owning a home seems to mean different things to different people here. I can’t say anyone has described my feelings so far but admittedly my view of owning a home is skewed due to witnessing my family growing up lose everything including the house. And that was back when it was very uncool to go through foreclosure…not like now.

Sorry, I agree with Bob. You should have more saved by now to get in that price range or you pay the price of PMI. That’s the way this worked before the mess we are in now. Keep looking and saving or lower your range. What is the hurry to buy right now?
