ParticipantIf you can swing it move to the next price level and you’ll get a lot more for your money. The prices get scary but we’ll be probably be carting wheelbarrows of money to the grocery store within 10 years anyway. They can’t keep printing this funny money forever without it leaking into the economy, and if you expect high inflation then the best thing to do is to borrow as much money as possible and buy real assets with it before it hits. Be prepared for some deflation in the meantime though. I still think prices will go lower over the next 2-5 years but after that look out, we are gonna be driving $100K Daewoos and drinking $5 cans of Schlitz. The guy with a $500K home loan is gonna be the envy of everybody in the neighborhood.
This is not investment advice! Trust me, I’m the guy that lost money investing in gold from 2005-2009.
Good luck JP…

ParticipantSP is a nice neighborhood. That property is very expensive, probably because of the lot. $558/sf at the low end of their range. The kitchen is dated but otherwise it looks nice, I like the detached garage. It seems like the real selling point here is that lot, you should investigate to see whether or not a larger home could be built there. If you aren’t crazy about having a giant lot, I would keep looking as you could get a bigger house in SP for not much more money if you were to go with a smaller lot.
One other thing to think about is how you will get in and out of that neighborhood. It is deep into SP and you will have to drive a lot of surface streets with stop signs, people walking, etc… to get to any highway. I would do some test drives to see how long it takes you to get from the 163, 805, and 5 into there. And the other way of course, during times you would normally be making the drive. I prefer NP or SP closer to downtown for this reason.
BTW we bought in NP last year at $380/sf, so there is stuff available cheaper.
Good luck!

ParticipantGood update – I’m glad we bought a house last year. I can’t believe how long this madness is going on, I would have died of old age waiting for it to stop.
