barnaby33ParticipantDon’t post nearly as much as I used to but bearishgurl, I’m surprised by this. The whole point of the OP is expectation management and what the proper level is. Telling someone to, “get over it,” is childish and a bit tendentious.
So to the OP you can drop out and work at the barber shop. In the short term the benefits are tangible. Less stress and the ability to get by with more free time. Free time by the way is the most undervalued commodity by many in the rat race. Long term though you are cutting yourself off from information and skills growth that I for one feel will be necessary to survive. That is unless you are trading city life to be a self-sustaining farmer. Good luck with that.
I do love the question though. Its very pertinent for a generation of Americans for whom the standard of living will be materially lower than their parents. Thank you for asking it.

barnaby33Participantsdrealtor, I’m more on the Draycott side of Aussie Shiraz. I was in Oz last month and spend a week in wine country. A day in each of Clare, Barossa, McLaren and Coonawarra. Barossa is still where the big fruit bomb reigns, but I actually like McLaren Vale wines better. Its cooler there and so the grapes tend to have more structure. It is however like arguing whether one likes Disneyland or Magic Mtn better. If you like amusement parks you’re going to have a good time either way. If you ever want to impress your wine geek friends (who know Aussie wine) show up with a Wendouree. Its my favorite but man is it hard to get a hold of.
I was also really surprised at the overall quality in Coonawarra. You don’t get many of them distributed here because Napa is so close its tough to beat. On the other hand I think in the next decade Aussie cab will come into its own and people will know about more than bin 707 and Parker estate first growth.
Of course in Oz that Draycott shiraz would be double what it is here, the alcohol taxes there are insane.

barnaby33Participantsdrealtor, I made a deal with self. I said to self, until you buy a place no bigger locker. No more fridges either.
I do however think the wine market is good for buyers right now, especially for older stock. I just got two Dunn Howell Mtn 86’s and had one for my birthday. What an amazing bottle of wine. I also had an 82 Grange and a 90 Francesco Rinaldi barolo. Not a shabby week for wine.
