barnaby33ParticipantAre you hinting that maybe the story is a proxy for things closer to home? Maybe that because of advert revenue the news outlets won’t shit in their own backyard, but have no problem doing so in others?
Josh
barnaby33ParticipantI hate it when I catch myself being lazy. The write off stems from a 1 billion dollar charge to stop doing business in Germany and close its stores. Getting out of Germany usually isn’t that expensive.
Josh
barnaby33ParticipantIn all of these discussions of the dollar and our fiscal proflegacy I find something missing, something major. We keep talking about our dollar losing its value to the Euro or the Yen. Does anyone out there think these currencies are particularly good places to invest? Its a relative thing in my mind. We are doing some very bad things with our currency, but none of the major European govts can get their act together with respect to debts either. France and Germany make a point each year of violating the Maastricht treaty (restricting debt growth to 3% of GDP.) Japan has an aging population and its tax base is horribly contorted.
I would just like to say that relatively speaking we may not be doing that badly. Ultimately with fiat currency, relativity is all that matters.
Josh
barnaby33ParticipantDon’t get your knickers in a bind just yet. Wal-mart’s negative earnings stem mostly from a 1 billion dollar write-off to get out of Germany.
Josh
barnaby33ParticipantYes but if we have an earthquake, we will have the same problem. Its just less likely year to year. The only fundamental difference is that SD would seem to have a sounder economy than places in Florida. I assume you could make the same offer here and not drum up that much interest right now.
As to Scripps moving to Florida, good luck with that. A friend of mine is a researcher here in SD. He invented a process to induce faster mutation in bacteria and got another friend of ours to build it. The lead researcher got a teaching position at the University of florida and so the guy building the machine had to move there as well. He spent two years there and finally couldn’t take it anymore. I am not saying everyone will react that way, but it sure doesn’t sound like Florida is going to be able to attract the caliber of talent necessary for a place like Scripps. Not long term anyway.
Josh
barnaby33ParticipantI’ll let Rich respond to that! Ok so I will make an attempt to find that article.
Josh
barnaby33ParticipantIt does! Inching closer to 25k which is my magic bbq number.
Josh
barnaby33ParticipantIf you don’t want unpermitted additions, Clairemont is out for sure. They even have a term for it, Clairemont magic. I would say a large percentage of those houses have unpermitted add-ons, which though technically illegal didn’t seem to have problems selling the last few years.
Josh
barnaby33ParticipantWhen you say across the street, do you mean from your residence, or the reduced 200k house?
I suppose its not super important but the clustering of such reductions is a real curiosity to me. Its something Rich touched on about a year ago.
Josh
barnaby33ParticipantDid someone record it? I was out by 10:30. Rafting will do that to you.
Josh
barnaby33ParticipantAs long as your review has no swearing and is factually accurate, I can’t see how or why they would remove it. They are selling RE services, not the property.
I gave your review a thumbs up on their site.

barnaby33ParticipantI would hardly call that a gimmick. I would say that is a very efficient market theory in practice. Since people on this board have a higher degree of understanding of what a fair market value is, I doubt we will be buying them, but its still a good idea. There is a MP conversion project that just finished selling kitty corner from me in Northpark.
Josh
barnaby33ParticipantWhat does, “portfolio their loans mean?”
Josh
barnaby33ParticipantI would recommend picking a spot where you can incorporate riding the coaster. I do it for work. I ride to the old town trolley station take the coaster to SV and then ride up the hill to the office.
