Participant
My issue with that execution is step counting is a rather silly metric. Especially since the accounting of steps is minimally controversial, and arguably somewhat irrelevant.
As a TEACHING tool I can see the use. As an EVALUATION tool I don’t care for it.
Very well said and I totally agree. It’s great tool to teach the concept, since every kid learn differently. However, for evaluation, who cares how the kid figure out 3-2=1, as long as they come up with the correct answer.an
ParticipantTime Warner is deploying TWC Maxx next month, which is their 300Mbps service.
I hope Google get this done quickly. Competition is great and my house is already pre-wired for fiber, so it shouldn’t cost them very much to turn it on.

ParticipantYou think $1500/month is bad, try $1610-2250/month at Gables Summerset: http://www.apartmentguide.com/apartments/California/San-Diego/Gables-Summerset/5191/
The rent for 2/2 at Summerset, 18 years ago were around $800. 10 years ago, they were going for ~$1400/month. Today, 2/2 starts at $1895/month for a 1 year lease.

AN, what brand is your AC unit ? Goodman ?
Also, on what month of the year did you replace your AC ?
Yes, they’re Goodman. The model is: SSX160481A & GMVC950704CX. I didn’t have AC before but the house was preplumbed for AC. I got it installed around April.
It looks like GMVC950704CX is a furnace. Did you replace the furnace at the same time ? Was the $2000 the labor for the AC only or both AC & furnace ?
Yep, that’s the furnace I got. Yes, ~$2k was the labor to add a new AC AND replacing my old furnace with that unit. I just looked back at that email chain and the total to do everything was $4500. Which was cheaper than if I would have bought the unit online and pay him $2k for install.

Participant
AN, I’m assuming your got a high SEER unit. Smart move. It will pay off if you use AC a lot, like I do.
$2,000 for labor sounds reasonable, especially if there is a long copper pipe run to the compressor.
yes, I got the 16 SEER 4 ton unit. I like my AC at 72, so yes, I do use my AC a lot. My house is already pre-plumb for AC, so no need for installing new copper pipe, since it’s already there.an
Participant
Approximately, how much did you save compared to using an HVAC contractor like ASI ? (You know how people typically call them & they come to your house to give you an estimate …)
>40%. I’ve gotten quote between 9k-12k. I end up gotten it done for around $4500-5000. I forgot the exact amount. IIRC, it was around $2k for labor and the cost of the unit.an
ParticipantI have the same brand HVAC. I did consider buying from acwholesalers and hire an installer. Then I talked to the install that I picked and he said he can get it from a local supply for a little cheaper, since he gets contractor discount. So, I end up having him getting it and installing it as well.

Participant
Those claiming Defender is on by default may want to double check because that is what I read as well, but it wasn’t. So either a virus turned it off or it was never on by default. I personally feel that windows 10 saw McAfee on my system and therefore did not enable Defender. Only problem is I was not using McAfee and even if I was it is not compatible. I now have Defender turned on and scanning, it is taking forever to do a full scan! Microsoft doesn’t even make a registry cleaner, those don’t really work and will most likely just screw things up, I assume Combofix is a registry cleaner. 6 hours later my scan is about 2/3 done.
I just double checked and it is on for me without me manually turning it on.
You’re right, it might have something to do with your system having McAfee there. You’re also right that McAfee is not compatible. Neither is Norton. However, how can you have McAfee on your system and Windows 10 not telling you to uninstall it? It would be work as design if your system have McAfee, even if it’s not working properly. Since, I would expect Windows to turn off Defender when I install a 3rd party Antivirus software.
BTW, are you using mechanical HDD or SSD? I find that antivirus scan is drastically faster with SSD vs mechanical HDD.

Participant
Might be something unique to your settings. I used to use Security Essentials and when I updated to Windows 10 it automatically switched to Defender and enabled it.
Defender is the Windows 10 built in antivirus and is on by default.

Participant
I’m with shoveler. There will be more growth, either out or up. As much as I hate to stay it, shoveler is right, growth will likely continue to sprawl out because of NIMBYism.
San Diego is building both out and up. For the up part, think Civita in Mission Valley, Stone Creek in Mira Mesa, and One Paseo in Carmel Valley. I’m sure others will come. Once we fully built out the “out” part, I can totally see other smaller cities w/in San Diego County would start to build up and have a more robust downtowns. I’m thinking a long the line of Gaslamp type of mix use developments in Carlsbad, Chula Vista, Poway, etc. But I think that day is a long time from now.an

At the point where the illusion becomes too expensive to maintain, they will just take down the scenery, they will pull back the curtains, they will move the tables and chairs out of the way and you will see the brick wall at the back of the theater.” – Frank Zappa
What’s funny is, it requires freedom for him to be able to say exactly that.

ParticipantI’ve been enjoying my AC the last couple of days set at 72 degrees and loving it. AC + solar rocks. No longer have to worry about setting my AC at 72. I tried setting it at 78 for a short period today but was miserable, so I lowered it back to 72 shortly after.
an
ParticipantIt’s 87 degrees right now in Mira Mesa.
