People believe that having kids makes them happy. It’s just the way it’s done and the example set by society. So people do it to conform.
If all your friends and family are having kids, it’s time to do it also. Otherwise, you feel left out.
As people age, they make fewer friends so conformity with the peers is important to self-esteem.
First and foremost, the older you are, the harder for you to get pregnant. The more stressed out you are, the harder for you to get pregnant. The more career focused you are, the harder for you to get pregnant.Younger people have more time to have more kids. They also tend to have less stress. Those who are not as career driven will have more opportunity to have kids.
Reproduction is hard wired in to your mind as an animal. If it’s not, then your species would be extinct. Animals do not have society pressure, yet they have much more offsprings than humans do.

Since we can’t compete w/ China on wage, why immigrate low income individual? I’m sure there are plenty of higher educated people who would love to come here. Those people don’t usually jump the border.June 6, 2011 at 2:50 PM in reply to: OT – Who will run for President on the Republican side? #701441an

Participant
This is just purely anecdotal from my circle and what I’ve observed, and I have NO data to support this…but it seems like:
1. People are having much smaller families than when I was growing up in the 70’s and 80’s (1-2 kids is the norm now vs. 3-5 kids then…my parents had 6 kids born in the 1960’s and 1970’s)
2. College educated higher income people especially seem to be either having no kids at all, or having them much later in life than the past
3. I am not as sure of trends in terms of family size and age having children within the lower income, lower educational levels (I would assume it to be larger families and having children at earlier ages)
Are you sure you’re not describing the movie Idiocracy?an

ParticipantRon Paul, but I doubt he will win.
To add on to TG’s platform, legalize most drugs, ship all criminals to an island like Australia, free schooling (private and public), and most important of all eliminate income tax.
