I’d say, you’re light on facts and heavy on opinions. You tried to paint the picture than poor people vote republicans and rich people vote democrats. Here are some data to disput your claim. San Diego political map:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Diego_County,_California
Go to the politics section. Although San Diego turned blue in 2008, the districts w/ higher median household income and per capita income voted Republicans while the Districts with lower income voted Democrats.According to the Orange County Registrar of Voters, as of July 21, 2009, Orange County had 1,599,889 registered voters. Of these, 43.6% (698,140) are registered Republicans, and 32.1% (512,853) are registered Democrats. An additional 20.2% (324,669) declined to state a political party.

Participant
It also interesting that most Jews vote for Democrats. Jews are arguably the wealthiest population in America.
It’s also interesting that Mormons vote for Republicans. The church is wealthy, the Mormon people not so much.
Japanese-Americans, another wealthy subset of the population, tend to vote for Democrats. Chinese-Americans also lean democratic.
Vietnamese-Americans, a poorer subset of the Asian-American population vote Republican.
In the deep South (as opposed to the peripheral south), poor Christians vote Republican.
Wow, just wow. Please tell me what’s it like living in black and white.an

ParticipantI agree with you guys on the compensation issue. This brought me back to the movie “Waiting for Superman”. What I remembered was, Michelle Rhee offered the teachers to have their average pay increase to about $120k from ~$70k, if they would agree to remove their tenure. Which would allow her to fire the bad teacher. The teacher union refused to even let the teachers vote. So, in essence, they rather protect the bad teachers from being fired instead of helping the good teachers get paid more.
