ParticipantWow, I didn’t know such thing is possible. If it’s true, it would definitely be an interesting show ahead.

Participant
There are always people who want and will pay for new. Just watch.
What will it mean for those houses when it comes time to resale? They’ll no longer be new. Will they still hold the same premium then? Will they help bring up the price of the surrounding areas or will they just appreciate much slower in the near term?an
Participant
Pardee has owned Carmel Valley and the other side of that canyon in SOrrento Mesa for a long time. I just drove by the area today showing a house in MM to a client. When I saw that location all I could think was Qualcomm/Telecom engineers wanting to buy new houses close to work. Those houses and condos are going to fly off the shelves.
Even at the starting price of mid 600k for a 2100 sq-ft house on a sub 5k sq-ft lot? Do people really pay that much more for new?February 11, 2012 at 10:23 AM in reply to: OT – Who will run for President on the Republican side? #737737an
Participant
AN, feel free to support Ron Paul all you want.
But as far as I’m concerned, Ron Paul is not even a viable option. There are plenty of guys on the left who want to legalize marijuana and end wars.
As we discussed before, Ron Paul has kooky economic and other ideas that make him undesirable.
Being a viable candidate or not is beside the point. My response was to merely point out the fact the the statement that Obama is more for social liberty than anyone of the presidential candidate on the republican side is wrong. I don’t think Ron Paul is a viable candidate either but it doesn’t change the fact. Btw, those guys on the left you mentioned are not running for president. Even if they are, i would love to pit them against Ron Paul and see who’s record is more for social liberty. Care to name a few so we can do the comparison? Also, being in California, I’m not going to think for a second that my vote for the presidency matters. Until Ron Paul drops out, I stand by my statement that Obama is not the candidate that is the most supportive of social liberty.

Participant

”Obama by far a bigger supporter of social liberty and social freedom than the Republicans.”
Oh, please list what social liberties and freedoms he has advanced?
Guantonimo, still there.
Patriot act, still there, or was it expanded? Definitely renewed.
TSA more intrusive than ever.
Where does Holder’s fast and curious fall?
It’s all relative. Key words in the assertion is “than the Republicans”. Pretty low bar. Repeal of DADT is a good example of one.
Would that be compensated by the mandate of religious organization offering contraception in Obamacare (at least until 9:30AM this morning, after the major backlash)? How many people DADT help vs how many people this mandate would have hurt? Also, was it Obama or Ron Paul who wants to legalize marijuana? Was it Obama or Ron Paul who thinks internet should be free from government regulation and taxation and is opposed to the internet gambling restrictions and net neutrality legislation? Who was against the patriot act? Who opposes eminent domain? Who’s against affirmative action? Paul voted in the affirmative for HR 5136, an amendment that leads to a full repeal of “don’t ask, don’t tell”, on May 27, 2010.[144] He subsequently voted for the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell Repeal Act of 2010 on December 18, 2010. I can go on, but bottom line is, no, Obama is not by far a bigger supporter of social liberty. If anything, he’s far far less of a supporter of social liberty when you compare him to Ron Paul.

ParticipantI don’t know how, but I’m sure they start buying land in this area probably in the 60s/70s. A lot of the western side of Mira Mesa were built by Pardee, even those that were built in the 70s. So, I assume they probably bought all of these land back then and slowly build them out. At least WRT this development, they wanted to build this many years ago, but because of environmentalist, they were delayed for many many years.
an
ParticipantThe two development will be called Sorrento Heights and Sorrento Terrace. Linky to Pardee site. The SFR will start in the mid $600k. The size will be between 2100-2500 sq-ft and the average lot size will be ~4500 sq-ft. This will definitely be the highest price home in Mira Mesa. Will be interesting to see if they can sell for this price. If they can, how will it affect houses around this area.
Also, it turns out that part of 92121 (east of the 805) is still technically Mira Mesa. The Mira Mesa Town Council is trying to fix the naming problem and reclaiming the area we all thought is Sorrento Valley. Here is the info about this effort.

Wealth is relative, and most “poor” people don’t compare themselves to others halfway around the world; they compare themselves to those who are visible around them — in their own countries.
If your standard for “poor” is relative to the population as a whole, we can give up on doing anything about poverty right now.
If you can come up with some absolute goals then progress is possible.
If your goal is “no one in the lower 10%” then it isn’t.
Totally agree. There will ALWAYS be someone in the bottom 10%.February 8, 2012 at 3:38 PM in reply to: OT – Who will run for President on the Republican side? #737586an

Participant
I don’t understand what folks are complaining about groupon. They exceeded revenue projections, they just didn’t hit their profit mark…What’s wrong with that? That’s what being a .com is all about…What? people actually care about profits in the latest .com companies??? No, really?
This is why I don’t think this is quite the .com like the original .com. I remember tripling my money in 2-3 months on a company with massive loss. No one really cared about earning.an
ParticipantCan’t you buy puts and achieve similar thing?
I never knew GTC doesn’t apply to AH. Good to know. Good job in getting out with very little loss.

Participant
Why does it matter if somebody “feels” poor? Are you saying we should base tax policy on those who “feel” poor?
Or should be base tax policy on those who are poor?
I’m sure all those people who are upside down in million $ homes feel pretty poor too.an
Participant
Lol… Now it’s only down 5%…. Ain’t life grand?
Yikes, down >13% now. Did your stop loss hit? -
