ParticipantJohn: Amateur sleuthing aside, why on earth wouldn’t this story have been picked up by the MSM if there was validity to it?
Fact checking is the cornerstone to good journalism, so it begs the question that if the document in question was not valid, and provably so, then this would be the single most compelling story of the election, especially since it would invalidate Obama’s candidacy.
So? What’s the story there? Is there some massive coverup that includes the MSM, or (more likely) is this nothing other than an overblown case of hot air and hyperbole?

ParticipantJohn: Yup, they did. They verified where I went to school, and that everything I claimed on my application for clearance was true and correct. My mom was thrilled that she had “G-men” in the house, but less thrilled when they spent four plus hours grilling her with question after question, including those related to my “after hours” habits when I was a teenager.
The FBI would indeed do a background check on Obama, given that he sat on one of the committees where the Bureau is tasked to do so, namely the Senate Committee for Foreign Relations.
Again, John, this is a tempest in a teacup. It is too glaring and too obvious, especially with all the attention being paid to it in the blogosphere right now. Even if, by someone astonishing miracle, everyone else had missed it to this point, some enterprising investigative journalist would have broken the story open, love of Obama be damned. And, no, I don’t buy the idea that the MSM spiked the story because they think Obama is the Second Coming of JFK.

Participantgandalf: I’m gonna have to go with you on this one. Back when I was in the Army, I received a Top Secret clearance. The FBI talked to my folks, my friends, and interviewed several members of the high school I attended. They were extremely thorough and I was a Lieutenant at the time (certainly no great shakes on the command ladder, if you know what I mean).
To think that Obama has gotten to this point in his career, especially as a sitting Senator on the Foreign Relations Committee (one of the committees that the FBI does background checks on the participants), strains credulity.
It would mean that the FBI, plus the media, plus every crackpot conspiracy theorist under the sun, completely MISSED the most obvious element in Obama’s life, and that is his status as a US citizen.
On the topic of serious times, there, dude, you respond to the banking crisis with “I’m concerned”. To say that you have a gift for understatement might be somewhat obvious.

ParticipantJohn: The only problem with the RNC keeping their mouth shut is this: They are bound by electoral laws governing conduct, and much as attornies are bound by the Canon of Ethics as officers of the court and are duty bound to report certain things, the RNC would find itself in pretty deep water, along the lines of the Watergate investigation into Nixon (“What did the President know and when did he know it?”).
If they know (and that is a mighty big “if”), then they have no choice but to divulge that information and immediately.
Again, if this story genuinely had legs, someone at the NYT or WSJ or WashPost would have spilled the beans. We live in such an information driven age, and a 24/7 news cycle that this would have been an epic headline. Forget the FBI, the MSM would have exploded this across the headlines.
