Participant
What if there was a Piggington meetup that was:
1) Mandatory – All posters in the last 12 months were somehow legally obliged to attend
2) Everyone had to wear a large name tag with their username on it
3) Had an open barHow long would it take before the first fist flew?
I got punched a couple of times in bars without wearing a name tag or saying a word/looking at strangers. I think both my facial features and my personality make people want to punch me in the face.

ParticipantRussians are arrogant bunch. People want the convenience of modern toys, but no way they would accept to be ruled from Brussels. Never conquered, Eastern Roman Empire, Gagarin, blah, blah. They remind me of Americans a lot. Germans are arrogant when dealing with most, but they generally recognize potency of few other countries.
I was always wondering if people from China and India privately have the same attitude toward people from other cultures.

ParticipantThe guy has large staff and half of the billings went to the drug maker. The problem is supposedly that he did not use much more affordable drug that yields the same result. Also the billings are tied to the cost of the drug.

Participant
Seeking Alpha is a blog that presents itself as news. Notice that the poster bashing PHOT discloses in his byline “I am short PHOT.”
This (literally?) poor soul posted an equally negative entry on Seeking Alpha a few weeks ago. After the recent action, I can only wonder how deep in the hole he is. There are no limits to your losses on the short side.
His post seems to contain at least one outright falsehood (the HQ addresses for VAPE and PHOT are not the same, easily verifiable w/ Google search).
I have traded this thing since .20 but finally took a “go for broke” position at .36 last week. So far I’m enjoying the action, and believe in the story. If I lose my $5K stake, it won’t ruin me, so I’m holding until big pharma or big tobacco buys them out. Or until it goes to $0.
Tax time is a constant reminder of how stupid I am for at least being partly dependent on being a W2 salary slave…
We know your kid can write. Maybe you can hire her to write the documentation for you? Maybe do some QA as well. She can then pay for her own school and deduct that from her income. Something like that.
My daughter does some graphic design for my wife’s apps. Does that make her afterschool art program deductible?

Be careful with this one. It’s not a profit until you cash out.
I agree. My sell order filled this morning. Now I need FLU to do his magic with JSDA.

Thank you, FLU.

Participant
Define “good” — if you’re making the salary of an average middle-class American family in a country where per capita income is 1/3 that of the US, you can live like a king.
More often than not the infrastructure will be less developed and consequently the standard of living. You would still be subjected to rolling blackouts when they happen.
Further, you might be making 3x what an average person is making, but that won’t make things more affordable. The energy, cars, electronics, even food and clothing are likely more expensive. The housing cost is what’s making the difference, but mostly because locals will settle for less. You can achieve the same in the US if you are willing to go multigenerational.
One other thing that is usually more affordable is live entertainment – theaters, concerts, movies…
Keep in mind that there will still be a lot of locals making (or at least spending) more than what you can spend, especially if you want to live in more desirable parts of the country and you likely won’t be living as a king.

ParticipantMy experience with ACA so far. The company decided to terminate the small group plan last Fall. Instead everyone signed up for insurance through Covered CA. The company is paying for it. I picked Blue Shield Platinum PPO plan (the only one among the gold/platinum plans accepted at Scripps as far as I could tell) and the mandatory dental for the kids. Covered CA is still showing both when I log in.
It took about a month to receive anything from the insurer, but I eventually received my account #. I log in and the kids dental is not listed. After spending almost 5 hour on hold I get to talk to a rep who tells me Covered CA did not pass along the dental info, I have to talk to them. After another couple of hours on hold I got to talk to a Covered CA rep who tells me they have no idea why that happened, but they will send the info again. It will take few weeks.
I received nothing, so after few weeks I log into the BSC portal to find out that the payment portal is no longer working (for me). I fill out the form and receive a call from a rep after less than an hour. The rep tells it is a technical issue and she can’t help me with it, but she can take the payment. She says I owe February and March. I tell her the corporate account has been charged for February and March. She checks another report and that report is showing no payment whatsoever, not even the initial payment the other report is showing. She has to check something with someone and she will call me back.all
ParticipantIt would be more fun to set the graduation quota with elastic priority dates, similar to how immigration quotas work. In order for a person to receive the degree the coursework has to be completed and the enrollment date has to be current for his group.
The Asian students would be extra motivated to help their peers complete the coursework. Instead of paying instructors for remedial classes we would have the Asians doing it for free.

Participant
The 1986 LA Olympics made a profit under Peter Uberoff’s capitalistic plan. And still show off :)
That was 1984. And level with 1980 Moscow.

ParticipantHosting the games is not about profit. It is about showing of. Like the Moon landing.
My take-aways
1. Russia can blow tens of billions to put up a show while simultaneously enjoying strong growth in GDP and average salaries.
2. Western media is mean-spirited, similar to what I observed during 2008 Beijing. Instead of focusing on athletes and the sporting events CNN, BBC and alike were focused on trivia.
3. NBC sucks. I am happy that they lost their US Open rights to ESPN. Hopefully the trend will continue. -
