ParticipantIt’s great time to be alive in San Diego if you love quality cocktails and beer. Seems as if there’s a cocktail revival going on right now. Lots of restaurants priding themselves on well-made, classic, quality ingredients, attention to detail, etc. Gone are the days of cheap well drinks. Plenty of bartenders see the making of cocktails as both art and science, and anyone who has attempted to make a quality one will agree. Cocktails have a lot of history, and it’s good to see that history starting to be respected.
Tequila fiends should check out El Take It Easy in North Park. Their goal is to create classic Mexican cocktails from colonial days and back when Mexico was a playground for the rich and famous during prohibition.
Cocktail Menu
Tequila/Mezcal MenuStarlite on India overlooking the airport has amazing mules, along with a handful of other quality cocktails. Drink Menu
Riviera in La Mesa has some killer classics made the right way. Negroni, Sidecar, Manhattan, etc. menu
And don’t even get me started on beer. We’re very lucky here in Sandy Eggo.

ParticipantA year after I visit New Orleans, Katrina hits.
A year after I visit Japan, the earthquake and tsunami hit.
3 months after I move from Hillcrest, it burns to the ground.I’m afraid that if you give me your empty gas cans, they will melt from my disastrous aura of awesomeness. But I’ll store them for you. Right next to the spider mansions I have yet to destroy.
BTW, learned some interesting factoids about the original owner from our neighbor. Apparently he was a CIA marksman. He would disappear on missions for months at a time. He made his own ammo in the basement. I’ve found rolls of geological maps of the USA in the subfloor, but not sure if that is related. He asked my neighbor if he’d be interested in helping him build an underground firing range under the back yard. Unfortunately he passed before he could accomplish his dream. I probably would have converted it to a bowling alley.
My house gets cooler and cooler the more I learn about it. Thanks again, urbanpyro!

ParticipantYou babysitter was probably just checking her Facebook and chatting with her friends. Maybe checking Piggington. It’s sketchy that she did it without your permission, but she probably just wanted to do what most babysitter types do on their computers. I doubt most babysitters are out to steal your private information.
That said, all of your computers should be password protected, especially laptops and even desktops. Even if they never leave the house. It’s an added layer of protection if they ever get stolen (or if prying babysitter eyes want to hack your shit).
You can add a basic non-password protected guest account if you want guests to be able to use your computers.
Yah, having to enter your password is an annoying 5 seconds added to the boot process, but 5 seconds of time is worth the piece of mind for me.

ParticipantCongrats, and enjoy! It’s been about 4 months since we bought, and other than minor fixes/upgrades/repairs taking up 100% of what little spare time and money we have, we see the light at then end of our little tunnel of projects and soon we will be able to enjoy. If it sounds like I’m complaining, I’m not. There’s something satisfying about putting a little TLC into your own place, despite all the blood, sweat, and tears it may take.
So again, congrats!
