ParticipantAnyone know what the city of L.A. is built on? Apparently, earthquakes travel rapidly through rock and slowly (doing more damage) through sand. So depending on size of the quake it eventually gets, it could really be devastating. Also, depending on what the quake takes out in the way of infrastructure: freeways, rails and even water, we could be in for a world of hurt because we would not be getting any deliveries unless we start shipping them by boat or flying them in (assuming the runways are not damaged.

ParticipantI could not find the latest info. re HOA’s, here is one from 2007: “The limitations that association may impose on solar systems were found to be reasonable by the legislature when Civil Code Sections 714 and 714.1 were approved. The law won’t allow an Association to prevent any solar installations, but does allow associations certain controls.” This section was primarily referring to condos or townhouses where the association controls the exterior. In SFR’s, like ours they did not even have us submit anything for approval. A prior owner had installed solar and the association found out they had no say in the matter.

ParticipantI believe they can break the company up and save the profitable part and bankrupt the non- profitable part. For the British, BP may be their AIG: too big to fail. Their pensioners have a lot of money invested in BP. I can see some of the campaign ads now with the oil coated dead and dying wildlife, the ruined and shuttered businesses. This is going to be the gift that will keep on giving to some who want to use this against the current people in charge. I think it will be like certain sections of New Orleans, ghost towns abandoned by the owners who went out of business. This is a horrible tragedy for the country.
