Participant“We believe there are in the neighborhood of 600,000 properties nationwide that banks have repossessed but not put on the market,” said Rick Sharga, vice president of RealtyTrac, which compiles nationwide statistics on foreclosures.
“California probably represents 80,000 of those homes. It could be disastrous if the banks suddenly flooded the market with those distressed properties. You’d have further depreciation and carnage.”http://www.nuwireinvestor.com/blogs/investorcentric/2009/04/banks-believed-to-be-holding-around.html

ParticipantChris: I agree with you that gold and silver may cool their heals for awhile IF we are looking at silver and gold as commodities and IF we assume that the dollar-up / gold-down correlation resumes / continues
IF gold is now behaving as a currency then all bets are off
the gold / USD action from mid-Dec through late-Feb might cause some people to question the “gold as commodity only” viewpoint – USD rallied from 0.78 to 0.87 at the same time gold rallied from 850 to 1000
and, on the international front, obviously the Russians and Chinese aren’t buying into any USD rally since they are both asking for a new reserve currency with gold backing

ParticipantCatalina is cool for 2 days max – you’ll be DONE by the 3rd day – not much for kids to do so give some thought to how you will keep them entertained – I leave from Newport Beach and take the Express ferry – last time I was there did a back-country jeep tour and enjoyed it – I like real estate so I always enjoy renting a golf cart and driving around the residential neighborhoods (talk about over-priced housing!) – huge difference between Catalina during the week and Catalina during weekend / holiday – I don’t enjoy crowded tourist places so Catalina on a weekend would not be my first choice
SF is a fun weekend trip – rent a GoCar near the waterfront and do one of the suggested loops
