Agree that all things temporary, such as our lives on earth, may seem futile when you look at the big picture, and I have long ago embraced that fact.
Of course, as a society, doing our best to avoid environmental catastrophe and the extinction of humanity, should be of concern to all us now, and especially wrt future generations. I’m sure many of us are involved in those efforts, but, for the purposes of the discussions on this forum, I think it’s helpful to share information wrt real estate, since shelter is, and always has been, a big part of our temporary human experience.
Agreed. On the dying slag heap of soon to be devastated, suffering humanity, I definitely would like to be toward the upper portion of the heap, in such a position that I can leverage my boot into the face of the less well off so I can grab a bit more of the last remaining resources and survive in slightly more comfort until the end of civilization, when that comes. I’m sure many of us on the board,, and hopefully our offspring, are similarly well positioned to profit off such face stomping in the future.
Scaredy, I honestly don’t believe most people feel that way about others, and I know we don’t. Although we can’t help everyone, by choice, over the years, we’ve helped many people outside of our family with college, housing, medical–you name it–and, know, by the outcomes, we changed some lives for the better in the process. A lot of people talk helping those in need–and even use them as pawns to make a point–but that doesn’t mean much, unless you take some action to effect measurable change.
When it comes down to it, we all feel that way. Hypothetical: either you sacrifice 99 perc of your assets or 10 random people in the USA die.

Maybe the best time to buy is right before they stop on the accelerator but when things look really bleak with no sign of turning around, where sellers are willing to let their house go for a deal. Fingers cross that opportunity arise again, like it did in 2008-2011. Just make sure you got your cash ready. It was bruttle trying to buy in 2008. Constantly having to compete with all cash buyers. I lost out on so many deals to cash buyers offering less.June 23, 2022 at 4:55 PM #826206flyerParticipantI agree, be cash ready. If there is another major decline, cash buyers will be out in droves as we were last time.
June 24, 2022 at 8:34 AM #826213scaredyclassicParticipantThere’s so many new buildings downtown, seems like that areas condos could be somewhat more vulnerable. Might just be wishful thinking. I really want one, but a nice one, 1/3 off.

That would be awesome. Maybe I can pick up a place in Pacific Gate for a discount.June 24, 2022 at 1:45 PM #826218flyerParticipantDue to many factors, I honestly don’t believe we’re going to see the extreme opportunities we saw during the Great Recession, but, you never know, so being cash ready, is a great plan.

Yep, my crystal ball is broken, so I have to be prepared for as many probable scenarios as possible. -
