Both of us marveled at the idea, neither ever having lived in Minneapolis, but since that day, I’ve always been thinking I’d like to check it out a little more, tough winters and all.[/quote]There are a lot of great places in the center of the country. That said, I think a big factor is that someone who is well established may be very hesitant to relocate to a location that is perceived as having a much higher cost of living. If you’re a 50 year old executive with kids in college, do you really want to start over in some place that’s twice as expensive to live in and probably has insanely expensive real estate relative to where you live?

It wasnt meant to be a cheapshot and sorry if it was perceived as such. SD is an expensive place to live. Many of the best aspects of living here are very visible everyday but those things are not easily attained. It can be frustrating for people earning a good living that would afford a very nice lifestyle most places but a very pedestrain one here. I know plenty of people who left because what they wanted was out of reach for them here.November 7, 2010 at 10:09 AM #627812sdrealtorParticipantdesmond

But when you have money and earn what is a well above average living in most of this country but that only affords you a very average lifestyle here it can make you miserable. I’ve seen it many times.
