Also, whatever stimulants (even coffee or red bull) that trump is on must wreck havoc with his metabolism.

A few years ago, I cut my coffee intake in half in the mornings. I’m down to less than a half a pot per day which is about two full travel mugs.

In spite of his rather brusque manner, he’s got such lofty ideas on how he will “make this country great again” with a pretty good understanding in his head of most of the issues. It would be terrible for the country to find him exhausted and with high blood pressure by the time he might finally get the chance to do so.
February 16, 2016 at 5:05 PM #794385bearishgurlParticipantI just noticed that Trump is 61 days older than Bill Clinton yet I feel he looks a few years younger than Clinton in his face. Hillary Clinton is 68 (16 mos younger than Trump) but she looks a few years younger than him (did she have any work done on her face??). Whatever … she looks great!!
Sanders is 74 (and will be 75 in Sept) which is five years older than Reagan was at the time of his first inauguration.

Good observation. Bill Clinton is looking weak these days. Trump is full of energy. If trump got his diet together he will live a long time. But guys like him, full of bluster, and used to having the best would be like “I’m not eating this shit wimpy food… Get me some real food and pronto!”
Hillary has her days. I feel for her. It’s hard for a woman to get her hair done every morning and looking good before facing the world. Men are lucky in that we don’t have to spend so much time gooming. I shave only every other day or every third day. The scuffy look is in. Match it with a plaid or REI shirt and it looks fashionable.

Local Congressman Duncan Hunter becomes one of the first members of Congress to openly express support for Trump.
February 25, 2016 at 1:42 AM #794907CoronitaParticipantWell. he definitely seems to have the personality of getting people to hate and get others to feel it’s ok and excusable. There is one other person that was able to do that.
Hitler.
White people have nothing to worry about. Lucky you.
God help the rest of us.

Actually no, Hitler and Trump are not the only ones able to get people to follow and hate. This ability in fact is quite formulaic- google research authoritarian personalities and their followers.
I finally figured out Trump’s one redeeming quality- he is opposed by the Koch brothers.February 25, 2016 at 4:11 AM #794909CoronitaParticipant

Well. he definitely seems to have the personality of getting people to hate and get others to feel it’s ok and excusable. I also have a big problem with Trump playing into the hands of people who are just mad and don’t want to future themselves and want to look for a scapegoat for all of the social and economic plight.
And I’m not even talking about illegal aliens. There’s this current of backlash against tech workers, specifically Indians and to a lesser extent, asians. Part of this is animosity against H1-B programs. The problem is many of these Trump supporters blame indians and to a lesser extent asians as the source of all their joblesness problem. I don’t get it.
This country really haven’t “progressed” as are misled to believe. When in doubt, when your in a financial rut, blame someone that isn’t white on all of your problems.
That seems to me to be a very effective platform for winning votes in this country. No one seems to really care about working hard toward achieving something anymore. And this comes from both “progressives” and “conservatives”. I really don’t see a difference in how both parties and politicians from both parties operate.
To say the least, I’m somewhat disillusioned and disappointed with the direction this country is headed. Everyone is a victim, and it’s never one’s own fault or one own’s life choices anymore.
I find there is a sense of irony. When “progressives” were running around this country beating the drum about how african americans had a severe social and economic disadvantage in this country, a lot of the folks from the conservative states would say something like “it’s not because your black, it’s because you lack education/skill/training etc” and “stop playing the victim card”.
Now fast forward to the current environment. They are the same people that now saying, the reason why I can’t get a tech job is because I’m white, and all the damn indians and asians are stealing “our jobs”…Trump do something about that…Ok, who’s playing the victim card now?
This country is now run by fear and hate. Both parties have discovered it’s a much better way to get votes than actually trying to do something productive to move the country forward. That’s why our political landscape swings so far to the left and so far to the right every 8 years or so. Because one party’s agenda is to stroke extreme fear and hate on the other side when the other side is in charge, that the next election cycle, the pendulum swings widely in the opposite direction the next cycle.
There are no moderates, there are no sane people left who can influence the direction of people in this country, which exactly what this country needs to move forward.
It’s quite disappointing, actually.
lol yeah there is a lot of hypocrisy on both sides of the fence.
Another favorite hypocrisy of mine from Republicans: many of them will rant to me that “liberals” (they’ll sneer, as if that’s an insult) are taking away their liberty – that Republicans are all about freedom to do what one wants. Yeah, I’ll reply, that’s why they support gay marriage, legalization of MJ, and abortion rights. And they are all about freedom of religion – as long as you’re talking about Christianity. Muslims, many of them believe, should not be afforded the same religious freedoms.
There truly is something deeper going on right now. How else do you explain that Bernie, an admitted Jewish Democratic Socialist, is coming dangerously close to Hillary while a millionaire with zero political experience has forced a Bush out of the race?
Discontent with politicians in general? Might be a part of it. I think any time you see a bulge in the number of young voters, like you see now, you’ll see fringe or even third party candidates rise. I remember in my youth being enamored with H Ross Perot, though I’m a little embarrassed to admit it. He did say some very logical things, but also had some big flaws.
I’ve been scouring articles for something that makes sense with other theories too. I found an article recently that explained why evangelicals were voting in large numbers (though still not a majority of them) for Trump. It proposed that evans had given up the political war realizing they’ve lost. The article said now they just want someone who will make sure their voice will be heard, even if they know that person isn’t a good Christian or even a Christian at all. And who has the biggest mouth?
There’s a long history in this country (and in plenty of other countries) of using fear and hate for political gain. Seems to me that it’s worse now than it was 20-30 years ago, but I’m pretty sure it was far worse at previous times. (When the Irish came due to the potato famine for instance)
Despite it’s long history, I have to agree that it’s pretty awful the way this fear mongering has came back in style.
February 25, 2016 at 8:29 AM #794919bearishgurlParticipantFrom his purple-tie rah-rah video after the Nevada caucus, Trump appears to have lost a few pounds in recent weeks. It’s possible that he has gotten a clue and is toting a personal trainer/dietition in his entourage.
