Piggs,
We don’t need to be in Carlsbad to get their business, that’s why we have three stores in Oceanside. Oceanside reaps the benefit of the tax revenue, Carlsbad doesn’t. Pretty dumb business move for Carlsbad, smart for Oceanside.

I live in the area and that proposed corner lot is a part of my normal routine driving, running, and biking area. It is a very nice area, safe, and quiet. Absolutely not the type of place that needs a Walmart, Trader Joes, Vons, whatever.
Yes, there are multiple Walmarts and Targets just around the corner. there is a new Target, Ralph’s, and Trader Joe’s just off of Palomar Airport Road.
I happen to be someone that loves Carlsbad and the Calavera Preserve that this site backs up to is priceless. Within 3 miles of my house is the Ocean, miles of running/hiking/biking trails, and yes Walmart and Target. I get the best of everything and my neighbors are nice, friendly, secure people. I can go for a run after dark and not worry (I do have a large dog that I bring along). I don’t think I would have that same level of confidence in “South Oceanside”.
I am in no way bashing Walmart (although personally I avoid it as much as possible, but that is because I am not emotionally equipped for the onslaught when I go in there and it stresses me out).

November 2, 2009 at 1:24 PM #476617AnonymousGuestThere isn’t a Wally world in C-bad and there is a good reason why. Trojan seems to think a lot of tax dollars are being missed. More than the cost of housing around a Wal Mart? Look at the cost of housing (now don’t go above into the hills into C-bad to get your prices) around Wal Mart, any wal mart? That should be a good indicator why the smart people of C-bad said no.
