Waking up: veganism: cholesterol.

Sometimes a switch just flips in your head and everything’s different. You’re going along, and you think you’re you, fixed, but really you aren’t who you think you are. One day you’re a corpse eater, next day you’re not. All kinds of awakenings are possible.

But setting aside spirituality, becoming a teetotaller vegan can really dent your cholesterol. I’ve had bad borderline high readings all my middle aged life, worsening slowly with age, no good cholesterol, lots of bad, triglycerides marching upward, in spite of lots of physical activity and a “reasonably” healthy diet by modern American standards. …but this last round…solidly good. Wild.

It’s almost like the universe wants me to care about suffering and the environment.

It could also have nothing to do with veganism, just being way more mindful of snacking and eating zero processed “food” or “bars” or “treats” (am I a dog?) or sugar added foods, but it’s all part of a general awareness to be slow, be mindful, do what you know is right.

Even if the readings were bad or the same, I’d stick with veganism, because it’s like I saw something I can’t unsee, but this is a sign to me that something was off on how I was living.

I was definitely headed toward statins…which would’ve really bummed me out…

I’m with you scaredy. I’ve slowly come to that opinion myself over the last 10-20 years.

Not sure if any of you watch the music reaction videos on YouTube, my wife and I are kind of addicted to them. It is fun to see a song through someone’s eyes/ears the first time they hear it. veganism is the way to go.

not quite sure why people are so set in their ways regarding animal products. especially given the proven cancer risks and most definitely the cardiovascular harm.

it is kinda like, ok, I’m going to eat this thing that I know will cause me harm, I know animals had to live a painful and tortuous life and die for this, and the earth will pay dearly for this, but I must continue to do this because I’m conditioned to believe this is normal and this is my right.
