Hopefully, NATO will do the right thing and tell the Turks and Russians “your war, have at it.” Alliances and treaties are meant to be broken. No sense in escalation over some agreement made in another different time.
I’m happy that Obama’s default seems to be deliberation, not rash action — he’s exactly the kind of President needed in this case.
November 24, 2015 at 8:55 AM #791549CoronitaParticipantNah. Not right now. I think everyone wants to deal.with isis first.
November 24, 2015 at 12:28 PM #791555FlyerInHiGuestMaybe there’s a proxy war going on and the shooting of the Russian plane a warning to Russia.
John Bolton wrote an interesting op Ed which makes it pretty transparent that the west does not want territorial integrity of Syria and Iraq.Sounds like Fench president Hollande is willing to give up getting rid of Assad to destroy ISIL.

[/quote]Nah. Turkey is just pissed that Putin has been pounding ethnic Turkmen rebels in Syria.
November 24, 2015 at 7:59 PM #791563moneymakerParticipantWas it a rocket, missile,or just a lucky shot, that took down the plane?
November 24, 2015 at 10:09 PM #791564paramountParticipantThis shoot-down could easily be an arch duke type incident.
College kids should worry less about safe spaces and worry more about WW3.

F16 shot down Russian plane which was in Turkish airspace for about 30 seconds.

Kind of silly to worry about something we can’t control. The time to act was when bush Cheney set the end of the wold in motion. But there was nothing that could’ve been done then either.
November 25, 2015 at 11:04 AM #791573FlyerInHiGuestscaredy, can you elaborate on the end of world set in motion.
You have such as smart, gentle and humorous way of explaining things. I often find myself thinking why didn’t I think if it that way?
November 25, 2015 at 11:17 AM #791575spdrunParticipantI can’t speak for scaredy, but invading Iraq was a kick to a hornet’s nest full of hornets hopped up on amphetamines.
November 25, 2015 at 11:35 AM #791577FlyerInHiGuestWell meaning actions followed by unintended consequences or hubris, stupidity and incompetence?
The attempt to topple Assad and break the Shia Crescent… was it good policy or stupidity, or just bloody evil?
Under the Assad rule, for decades, Syria was a middle income country, not rich nor poor. There were no refugees and people lived fairly happy lives… Now, there are close to 4.5 million refugees out of a population of 17 million.
November 26, 2015 at 9:07 AM #791587zkParticipantRussian pilot:
As god is my witness, I didn’t think turkeys could shoot missiles.
November 26, 2015 at 11:36 AM #791588moneymakerParticipantDon’t think they believe in god over there, but if you are going to shoot a turkey, today is the day. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
