Being against torturing animals doesn’t mean people are putting them above humans, it means they have sympathy for more than just human beings alone. What exactly is wrong with this?

So you’re not “anti torture”, you’re a hypocrite (and someone who condones torturing rats by the looks of things).
Remember, if someone wants to go out of their way to torture something (that is, inflicting prolonged pain), then that is a questionable mindset. How is this mindset any different to that of someone torturing another animal? Torture is torture, after all. Making exceptions like this completely makes your “I am usually anti torture” moot and quite ridiculous.
