Traffic on the 56

[Sick Of The Heat]

I’m considering making a move from Phoenix to North County. I’m looking all along the 56. I’ve heard the traffic is bad through Carmel Valley. What is bad? Everything is relative. My office will be at the 163 and 15 split. How long will my daily commute be from Carmel Valley?

It is depending on which way you are heading. I am taking Rt56 west to Rt5 south around 7:00am, and it has no traffic any more. But if you try to take the same route later time, it might be different a little. At evening, merging from Rt5 north to Rt56 east is a little headache due to heavy traffic.
Now, it looks like they are trying to add one more lane around up to Carmel Valley exist, but not sure if it works better.

In the future, the traffic will get worse since many houses are getting built in Del Sur/Pacific Highland etc.

By the way, I am not sure of how people are arranging their work hours there in San Diego. They come late and leave early.

Hey now you weren't the guy reminding the teacher or professor about the assignment they forgot to collect were you?  Some employers must be ok with adjusting around rush hour.

You’re reverse commuting so its not bad at all. I drive east on the 56 from CV to the 15 at different times and it is never an issue but the traffic heading west is horrible. At night it is the complete opposite.

I live in CV and think the traffic on 56 is great…

I commute east in the morning, and west at the end of the day, which is against traffic (typically, 56 west is bad in the morning, and 56 east is bad in the afternoon).

It takes me about 15 minutes to reach the end of 56 in the morning, and ditto to reach the 5/56 interchange in the evening around 6pm… There’s no problem coasting at 85+mph, minus the CHP’s. Unfortunately, there has been quite a lot of them lately,so be careful. There’s usually one parked right under the Carmel Valley Road overpass westboard in the evening.
