I have read the the comments and there is a lot valid information here. As with any service you need to do your homework before you hire.. Liens, lawsuits and strict local municipalitys can take all of the fun out of any construction project. That being said, however, there are many pros to building your own house as well. With the right contacts and sources you can save money by building new. A good design can improve your quality of life. I have been witness to various renovation projects that cost a huge amount of money. A successful project requires the combination of a patient client, a great designer and an experienced builder. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me through my website at http://www.foxdesignstudio.com. I am always happy to help!

December 16, 2009 at 3:13 PM #494742briansd1GuestI don’t see the attraction of houses with exposed wood beams.
I personally don’t like wood anything that looks old, worn and dated after a few years.
I think that it’s better to buy as is and renovate. You get much more for your money.
All the custom houses I’ve seen aren’t any better. Whatever you like, someone else won’t like it, so from an investment standpoint, you’re wasting money and energy on a custom building.
I personally think it’s such a waste to spend time, energy and money to select door knobs and the like to exacting specifications.
I love architecture and design but I’d rather someone else spent the time and money on it.
I’ve considered buying a 1950-1980 house in central coastal San Diego and renovating it. I wouldn’t build from scratch.
