Compared to what? It’s all relative.

Even though there are wealthy areas of Temecula, whenever I’m asked about Temecula vs SD I usually come back with the following:
If you’re a 1%er, SD is awesome. If you’re a 99%er, Temecula is almost always a better choice.
For the 99%ers Temecula is better in so many ways IMO. And I grew up in Pt. Loma![/quote]
Well, Temecula is better for the average family the same way Santee is better, or Frisco, TX is better.
Of course, Temecula is cheaper and newer (more comfortable, ready to move in living) so that tilts the value for-the-money consideration in its favor.
It’s planned suburban living. You have “town centers (big box strip malls w/ some village architecture)” surrounded by schools and houses with separate business parks. So it’s convenient for people to get what they need.
There’s the same planning to a lesser extent in Mira Mesa and Clairemont. Santee actually has a trolley station.
Temecula has the biggest casino in California (still the biggest?) that attracts world-class shows and concerts. They are more popular than high-brow shows.
June 14, 2015 at 3:16 PM #787264FlyerInHiGuestI have friends in Huntington Beach. Once a month, they go wine tasting in Temecula and post on Facebook. They were just there yesterday. It’s expensive and not my style, but I guess I understand the attraction.

I don’t know about Frisco, TX but Santee seems like a decent comparison. At least both have strong school districts.

If you looked on the west side where the industrial park is.
If you took a picture 10 years ago and then took one today, you would probably think it would have seemed impossible to grow that fast IMO.
Still has a long way to go.
June 15, 2015 at 11:44 AM #787270FlyerInHiGuestI tend to look at growth prediction with a grain of salt.
Developers/promoters always oversell trying to get people to move in.
If I were in San Diego and wanted cheaper, I would prefer Oceanside. It’s on the coast. They built a big business park there and then attracted a big Pharma. But still has a long way to go before build out. Similar to Temecula, except that Temecula is inland. It’s easier to commute to Irvine and San Diego from Oceanside.
If you’re 50yo, would you move to some place w/ growth potential decades down the road? You’ll be dead before it happens.
June 15, 2015 at 1:09 PM #787273The-ShovelerParticipantYep Oceanside is going to be completely remade within 10 years IMO, That would be a good choice if you don’t have school age kids.
Prices there are going to be similar to Carlsbad today IMO.
Pretend you have a 8 year old and answer the same question,
June 15, 2015 at 1:15 PM #787274spdrunParticipantI know many places that were supposed to have been “remade within 10 years” and haven’t been.
June 15, 2015 at 1:18 PM #787275The-ShovelerParticipanti know quite a few people who bought in their 50’s in temecula and commute JUST BECAUSE they plan on retiring few years. but that is a whole other topic really.

June 15, 2015 at 3:16 PM #787277FlyerInHiGuestI find Temecula a boring retirement location.
It’s in the middle of nowhere without an airport. Who will come visit?A place like Vegas is better because you will always have a stream of visitors so you won’t be bored. Florida is cheap also. Hawaii is good but not cheap. Basically a major tourist destination is good.
Temecula is fine to live, work and raise a family. It’s too far commuting and retirement. Relatives will come one time for the wineries maybe, but they won’t return again.
When I’m old, I’d like for friends and relatives to come visit for weeks at a time.
June 15, 2015 at 3:24 PM #787278FlyerInHiGuestLet’s say you’re from LA. Then you decide to decamp to Temecula and commute/telecommute. Will your friends and relatives visit on weekends? Highly doubtful.
June 15, 2015 at 5:37 PM #787279spdrunParticipantDepends where in the LA Basin — and if you have a family, you might not care so much about friends. Though you should.
June 15, 2015 at 7:05 PM #787280scaredyclassicParticipanteverywhere sucks in many ways in america. too many damned cars everywhere. every inch of every medium is something or someone trying to sell you some damned thing. ecological disaster impending.

Unfortunately the city now prohibits feeding the ducks…
