So flu, everything you say you’re for is the libertarians. Why are you voting for Clinton instead of Johnson? Purely because you’re afraid Trump might beat her in California? Cause frankly, if so many defect from Clinton she losses California, I think it won’t matter.

Well of course that’s the irony.
But there’s rational hope and there’s desperate hope.
Sad part is that these folks are desperate for no reason. The entire premise is flawed.
America has never ceased to be great.
modern life is not great. we are increasingly isolated and alone. http://www.bowlingalone.com
we are like lonely children with too many toys but no pals.
maybe the nation is looking for a friend in trump.

Johnson has no shot at winning because he is so off from.the other two
…If Trump wasn’t so close to Hillary or Johnson was close enough, I would.

Johnson won’t win, but Johnson getting 15% sends a message. Clinton not getting 50% sends a message.
Voting for Clinton is saying the two parties giving this choice is okay.
But I get it, the risk of Trump is too great of a threat to your family. Devil you know. Eight more years of the last eight years we’ll okay.
I don’t actually believe that. The last eight years were just a continuation of the prior 40 years. 40 years that saw the greatest wealth concentration since the Gilded Age.
This election is no longer about who is President this round, it’s really about what kind of candidates we see next time.
Trump needs to lose, badly, Clinton and the DNC needs to shit their pants that they nearly loss.
A repeat of 2000 would be good. An Electoral deadlock even better. Johnson taking any state and f***ing it all up the best (not going to happen)
IMHO, the DNC needs to get to Nov 9th and realize their rigging the primary against Bernie might cost them.
IMHO, Bernie versus Trump wouldn’t even be close.

I’ll give you a good example of rational hope fulfilled. My friend was able to marry his Canadian husband and sponsor him for a green card, thanks to Obama who, by executive decision, allowed gay married couple the same benefits at the federal level, well before the Supreme Court made gay marriage the law of the land.
Trump supporters don’t like the audacity of hope among immigrants and minorities. They want subservience.
October 4, 2016 at 9:14 AM #801792FlyerInHiGuestFlu, that was good write up.
Johnson is a know-nothing. Stupid. If the republicans were normal they would not have nominated Trump. There is collective guilt. And there needs to be collective punishment.
Give the Republibans some of their medicine. If one believes that Muslims are responsible for Bin Laden or Isis, then Republicans are responsible for Trump and extremism in their own party.
I believe you’re correct in repudiating the Republicans. Good for you.
Oh, and taxes are a small price to pay for opportunities and national policy that increase opportunities. We saw how China became rich in one generation thanks to good policies. We need a new national infrastructure. Libertarian do nothing won’t cut it.

What message? To whom?
Ross Perot didn’t change anything after ’92 even though he got a much bigger portion and likely tipped the balance in Clinton’s favor.
’96 was business as usual for the two parties…

What really has been that terrible for the past 8 years wrto the economy in CA?
Me personally. I thought it was a pretty good 8 years. I am looking at my 2015 taxes I just finished last night (lol) and my effective tax rate is now 21.5% federal. 8 years ago, it was about 17.6%…But, 1. my AGI is about 33% more than it was 8 years ago, 2. I am in a higher tax bracket and 3. I lost part of my mortgage interest deduction last year when most of the loan balances left wereaonly principal payments.
So on hindsight, it wasn’t bad, at least not in CA and at least not for me, and certainly my standard of living didn’t go down.
On thing I did learn. Since Trump is TaxSmart… I am definitely Tax Dumb for paying it.
October 4, 2016 at 10:16 AM #801796anParticipant
AN you know me pretty well. And you know that I would never be Ok with higher taxes and bigger government.
Yes, I know you well. I was asking as a jest more than anything. I know where you stand on issues.
BUT, at this point, I’m more concerned with a longer term damage Trump does to this country than a shorter term damage that Hillary might do to my taxes.
I think that’s where we disagree. I have faith in our political structure. Which I think will prevent someone like Trump to do crazy shit. However, if Clinton and democrats somehow win in a land slide, we will not only see no entitlement reform but add on to that, free college, higher minimum wage, bigger government, etc. Which, IMHO, is cause a very long lasting damage. It’s not about my taxes. I don’t think either one of them will greatly affect me in the next 4-8 years. But I believe her policy (if she gets everything she want) will cause long lasting impact.
He represents everything wrong about this country, every sorry excuse people make for themselves on why they can’t get ahead.
Yes, very true. But the demographic shift will change all of that over time. in 30 years, minorities will be the majority. Look around and you see A LOT of mix kids now and it will only get more prevalent.
Like NSR said, everything that you said you stand for and favor, is what a Libertarian stands for. So, why vote for the lesser of the two evil when you have an option that stand for what you stand for? Also, you’re in CA, which mean Hillary will get our electoral votes anyways, so why worry about actually voting for who you want instead of the lesser of the two evil.

You just said that you have faith in our political system.
Well, our political system is where you fight it out within the parties, then build a platform and consensus for 4 years.
Bernie fought and he lost; but he was able to get some concessions and changes to the platform. The system was not rigged against Bernie. He just got many millions fewer votes.
I like Hillary just fine. You don’t need to like her. She doesn’t represent your party.
AN, you don’t like the nominee of the Republican party, so you’re voting third party. Good for you. At least you have the good sense to repudiate your party for the collective guilt of nominating Trump. Many of us don’t share your pain.
