July 6, 2016 at 5:30 PM #799345FlyerInHiGuestZK, I was talking to friend who’s born again. There a lot of stuff in the bible with rapture, the end of the world, etc.. that’s driving fear of Muslim, immigrants, the belief that Obama is a stealth Muslim, black helicopters bringing world government, etc… It’s all wacky emotional stuff that Trump is appealing to.

I know what you mean, but why is this true? I suppose because SP is offensive in an equal opportunity kind of way. I seem to recall Isaac Hayes reading for the part of Chef and saying something to the effect of “I hope you have insurance” in an interview. Can’t find it anymore, though.

July 6, 2016 at 10:51 PM #799352scaredyclassicParticipantwhat persuades jurors in a trial?
theoretically it’s cold, rational analysis of facts and law.
but that is not how it really goes down in hotly disputed cases.

Emotion. It’s all theater. People used to like my Dad (he passed away in 2011). He won cases that he really shouldn’t have because people (including jurors) liked him. It was fascinating to watch. The firm I worked with years ago had an enormous case and after it was over they were allowed to interview the jury. They asked the jurors if they had any questions (trying to find out if they could improve their delivery). The first was whether the lead counsel was married. Second was what brand of shoes the second chair was wearing. They didn’t care about the facts; they were interested in the people.
I see it in big and small matters. Lawyers forget that being likeable (not in a meek way) is a secret weapon

As is stated many times in the article, the truth doesn’t really matter. Hillary must persuade the electorate to believe that Trump is a psychopath. And emotional persuasion is not her strong suit.[/quote]
I disagree, I don’t think the people voting for Trump care if he’s a psychopath. Kind of like Chavez in Venezuela.
Swing voters, maybe, but I think they already have a good feel for Trump. They also have a good feel for Hillary.
So, Chavez or the oligarchs?
Anybody want to talk about the economy leaving 45 million people behind to be on SNAP?
July 7, 2016 at 9:45 AM #799360FlyerInHiGuestChavez or oligarchs? I don’t see how they compare to what is going on here.
I however believe that Trump’s appeal is quite like Putin’sEarlier in the process is was “Trump and Sanders are the same on opposite sides. ” Now its “people hate Trump but neither do they like Hillary.”
Just remember that the truth is not equidistant from right and left.

But is Trump likeable? I would say he’s an ass and a bully. He bullies people because he can, and his supporters like that. They want to be like him.
Hillary is not likeable for many reasons, foremost because she’s a smart intelligent woman who doesn’t bake cookies. People dislike that. They dislike that she even said that.

Being nice and being likable are completely different things. In fact, I’d say there’s not even very much correlation between the two. A raging asshole is probably not likable, but even then, only if he’s consistently and overtly mean. Plenty of extremely nice people are very much unliked.
