Svelte,
First thing is I am talking about the Libertarian position on the national level. The libertarian position that Ron Paul supports. Ron Paul is indeed a Libertarian, although I don’t think he agrees with 100% of the party, just like any party.
Next you just proved my point above. “Social Pressure” is what forms on a local level to pass local regulation. CAL/EPA was formed from social pressure on the local level as well as local air quality boards, water quality boards, etc. These local groups go above and beyond what the EPA mandates which basically makes the EPA on the national level redundant. Why would you voluntarily pay the salaries of these guys on the National level in DC that have no clue about things out here in California? We are already putting our local money to work here and it’s better! Do you like giving away money to fat cats in DC? I don’t like giving my money away for somebody else to spend in a manner that is redundant and useless. Why are you so easily fooled Svelte?
Mark, you stated the Libertarian position was to left lower level governments decide. When I showed you that it was in no way a part of their platform, you warp their words to fit your position.
Pretty amazing and it matches your continued contention that Ron Paul is a Libertarian when he is clearly running as a Republican…you see the world as you want to see it, not as it is.
1st – What I said is that Ron Paul’s position may differ from what you find on the website of the “official libertarian party”. In particular some libertarians preach an open boarder policy that Ron Paul does not. Like democrats or republicans there are different flavors and influences in any party.
2nd – Ron Paul is 100% libertarian running as a Republican because the political system is rigged. If you don’t run under one of the 2 main parties you can’t get into debates and you can’t get TV time. It is merely a formaility and he openly claims libertarian all the time. The system is rigged and that alone should piss you off and be a cause for concern. Check his wikipeida:
3rd – How did I twist the libertarian position?! It is EXACTLY the position of libertarians to form groups and influence poltics on a local level, not a national level. I’m sorry but you don’t understand the Libertarian position if you think I twisted the words because it is EXACTLY what is intended by the statement that you quoted. Libertarians just want you to follow the constitution, why is that so hard to understand? Why do you want to violate the constitution and give up rights to the national government to a bunch of guys that are idiots? Have you ever walked through government offices or met governement officals? Do you think the DMV runs smoothly? Do you think the IRS is an efficient system? Why would you let such a horribly inefficent group of people take your money and try to protect your environment from 3000 miles away? That concept is just nuts isn’t it? Do you want website links to all the local environmental groups that protect us in California and make the EPA redundant? I think I have proven my point right?
