Getting the Apple issues over with is a big plus, should be good for SD as well.

This is a big deal, 5G — Intel out QCOM in

Yup …. I think it’s about time to get out of AMD ..they’ve had a good run. but Intel pulling out of 5G means they will refocus on their core cou and server business again…..So AMD might have about 2 more good quarters before things really start to get competitive…
I sold my qualcomm holdings yesterday to diversify… speaking to my parents, I found out recently they still hold a lot of shares since 1996 when I working there and told them to buy. They never sold a single share, so one of us needs to diversify. Apparently they’ve also held on to Intel since 1981ish… it’s because of that why I don’t hold a single Intel share. there were times that both these companies fell big-time .. it was a wake-up call that I needed to spread out the risk. yeah, more passive index funds for me… lol
April 17, 2019 at 7:33 AM #812311The-ShovelerParticipantWow it is hard enough to hold an index fund through the up’s and downs since then.
Good on them.
April 17, 2019 at 7:40 AM #812312MyriadParticipantSeems like a good time to sell when a stock is at a high market cap relative all other stocks in previous history.
INTC/CSCO in the 2000s. Maybe MSFT, AAPL, AMZN these days.April 17, 2019 at 7:49 AM #812313CoronitaParticipant
Wow it is hard enough to hold an index fund through the up’s and downs since then.

Well they had their fair share of suckers… They sold Apple before jobs took over at a loss and bought companies like webvan lol…I told them not to do that but hey, those were irrational times… Surprisingly they bought Facebook post IPO when I went off on not doing that….i guess it was good they didn’t listen to me… it’s a crapshoot imho…. which is why I think I like this indexing thing…
They mistakenly told me to buy stocks instead of real estate because at that time their real estate was sucking wind… I listened to them when I was younger, and in hindsight that was a mistake. should have bought real estate and less stocks…It took until the 30ies before I realized that mistake.
Anyway I think Qualcomm is the first supplier that successfully put the screws to Apple …Apple deserves it… As a someone that formerly worked at a company that was also their supplier, they were a major dirt bag to work with, almost as bad as Samsung. It’s about time someone screwed them over.
As far as Intel, 5G ends up being like 4G which was like their WiMax… DOA…
Intel marketing was saying how 5G was ready and showing off chips that where basically fake non functional units…. lol…

INTC/CSCO in the 2000s. Maybe MSFT, AAPL, AMZN these days.
I dont know. Its just these days my risk appetite has fallen off a cliff. The saying goes when you are you gder, you can afford to take risks because you have nothing to lose.. As you get older, you spend most of your time trying to protect what you built. I can see that.
So I’ve been combing through all the individual stocks I own and figuring out who owns what, and removing duplicate investments just in case things blow up (again). For some of these high flyers, taking half off the table.
The exception is AMD .. I don’t own any shares, just a bunch of call options that expires Jan 2020, some of which were bought when AMD was $2.50-3/share, some when it was $20-22/last year. I’ll need to do something before the end of the year because they expire in 2020, and I’d rather book the gains this year versus 2020. Hoping for a good Q1 and Q2 to get out.
April 17, 2019 at 8:18 AM #812315The-ShovelerParticipantHopefully Intel stays in SD, I don’t know what their intentions in SD will be without 5G.

I think Intel bought an AI company here in SD, I think it was called Nervana Systems or something like that. So they will probably just retool and put them to work on that

Wow.. didn’t think this would happen..Ouch…..
Morning Brief: Judge rules Qualcomm violated antitrust law
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/u-judge-rules-qualcomm-practices-102725422.html
I was feeling kind bad that I missed the rally up to the 80ies by selling off early ..but I guess maybe not so much now …
But don’t worry folks. Qualcomm has been dubbed an American “crown jewel”… So I am pretty sure we will see some executive orders in the future that will exempt Qcom after a Twitter storm….I am being serious …
In the short term…back down below $70/share from the $80ies you go ….
Maybe pick up some shares back in the $60ies….after I ditch AMD…hopefully a slew of good news at Computex with Ryzen 3000, Epyc Rome, and Navi Gpu will hype it up.
Unrelated .
The Ryzen 2700x is awesome. I bought the 50th anniversary gold edition with the digital etched signature of Dr Su. Thank you team red for the past of outstanding ROI.The 2700x sustem was cheap to build , and now with all the security issues with Intel CPUs and those security patches slowing things down 16% at best,…Ryzen 3000 at 7nm will bring very interesting competition to this table….and PCI 4.0 with the x570 chipset.
Time to upgrade again….
May 23, 2019 at 9:41 AM #812574CoronitaParticipant$67/share… getting close to where I want to buy…. just a few more dollars to $65ish.
May 23, 2019 at 5:59 PM #812575moneymakerParticipantAnyone buying Tesla? I bought some and am now down, but as usual don’t plan on selling til it goes back up. Perhaps this will be the first stock I will lose money on. It definitely goes against my better judgement of only buying dividend stocks that actually make money. If the $7000 rebate gets re-implemented it should help, not sure if the China connection will hurt them or not.
