Do you where the boot on your head like our hero?March 11, 2012 at 11:00 AM #739731scaredyclassicParticipantNope. Boot on foot. Something really weird about a guy in full motorcycle racing gear on a tiny scooter. I had the vintage mint green model. So fun.
Vespas were newly reintroduced in the USA at that time. Early adopter in that case only.
Never came close ever to an accident or close call. Read proficient motorcyclying by hough a dozen times and practiced it on the road always. Great great book.
If you enjoy the sensation of speed , even a Tiny 150 cc vespa is pretty exhilarating compared to any car. I could get ot to 62 mph in full aero tuck. Looked completely insane.
March 12, 2012 at 9:34 AM #739745RenParticipantThere’s a reason ER staff call riders “donors”.
My wife’s ex-bf hit a tree doing all of 20mph, now a bitter paraplegic. Lucky for her, his other girlfriend showed up at his hospital bed at the same time she did, sparing her a lifetime of caring for the moron. She is now militant anti-bike, and I tend to agree.
Full leathers are important, and will help you immensely if you lay it down with no other vehicles around, but the chances of wrecking on an empty road are slim, and the chances of every vehicle around you having a fully alert driver are even worse.
March 12, 2012 at 9:57 AM #739746scaredyclassicParticipantMany riders go an entire lifetime without crashing. Many crash within months of starting.
A lot of it, not all, but almost all, is operator based.
March 12, 2012 at 10:51 AM #739748jimmyleParticipantMany riders are idiots. Every day I see a few examples of them lane splitting at high speed in relation to car traffic. They also zig-zag through traffic as if there are invincible. I also have seen some of them on one wheel. I think most motorcycle accidents are because of reckless riders.

“Pentagon brass got an eye-opener when they examined 2008 casualty figures: More Marines died stateside on motorcycles than were killed in Iraq or Afghanistan.”
March 12, 2012 at 4:53 PM #739766scaredyclassicParticipantMarines equal young, fearless, believe immortal.
Scaredycat equals old, frightened, sees disaster at every corner.
You are better at seeing trouble in life a few steps ahead at 50, and even more so on the road.
But I agree, highly risky, that’s why it’s fun. Still the risk can be managed. And that’s what the articles about. Training. For troops who may have a “superman” complex.
It’s fun!

On the opposite side, jacked-up trucks aren’t exactly ultimate driving machines. Not sure what those jacked-up trucks are, but they sure look bad-ass and masculine.
These jacked up trucks are a status symbol for rednecks and WT and seem to be everywhere you look driving around Temecula.
These jacked up lifted trucks are a menace to society and they should be illegal.
Ever see one of these weenies get out of these trucks? Well, you know what they say…
March 13, 2012 at 2:04 AM #739799CoronitaParticipantfor some reason, all this talk about prius reminded me of this video… kinda funny…

As for BMWs, they certainly perform to my tastes but the styling has always been close but no cigar for me, except for the Z8 and this newest 5 series. Love’em both!
The electronic steering rack sucks major donkey ass imho …

I can see scooter and electric bikes gaining more popularity in dense European and Asian cities. Maybe New York, and San Francisco. Innovation can transform the desirability of products and the satisfaction people get from using them.
But I can’t see people driving scooters from Temecula to Escondido, or from Rancho Bernardo to Sorrento Valley.

Yes, it’s different category.
I kinda see the car enthusiasts point of view, but that’s not what the Prius is all about. It’s more of an aspirational product that has gained mass market status.
BTW, I just read that the new Mazda 3 has improved gas mileage.
