“I don’t know anyone who is not concerned about the illegals all over the place and I’m not even a Republican.”
Really deadzone, you don’t know anyone who could care less or who perhaps believes that classifying people as “illegal” is more primitive and immoral than being “illegal” is?
That is amazing. I know many and I’m not even a Democrat.Maybe they just don’t talk to you about it for some reason?
December 26, 2007 at 9:45 PM #124675AnonymousGuestOkay rustico, so since you and your amigos are against classifying citizens, then you would be in favor of open borders and anyone from anywhere in the world can come here, live and work legally no questions asked? In other words, you are in favor of open immigration? If so, that is your perogative but you are definitely in the minority.

December 26, 2007 at 10:52 PM #124699NotCrankyParticipantI didn’t say I held the beliefs in question. I am surprised that you don’t know anyone who did. I believe that there are are more “elites” who believe according to the view I outlined than there are people from the lower classes, not sure.
FTR: I not sure there are so many racists here. I think there are many people who don’t speak up against the occasional fit of racism for various reasons. I view protectionism differently from racism, although the two overlap quite easily and are often married in one line of primal defense of an entitlement posture.
O.K. Amigo?

December 26, 2007 at 11:03 PM #124719patientlywaitingParticipantI proudly support open immigration for different reasons. Of course, I keep quiet about it most of the time because I don’t want my house fire bombed.

For those who don’t know, Milton Friedman, the architect of Ronald Reagan’s economic revival/deregulations was a strong proponent of open borders. He kept quiet for the sake of expediency. For open immigration to be effective, you cannot have a welfare state, hence Reagan’s main goal was to dismantle the great society. The Republicans business “elite” (not saying that I’m one) tend to support very liberal immigration policies, especially for college educated workers.
The “low-class” red voters should really spend some time reading and educating themselves a little more.
