Not sure this is true, but I read Jay Leno is leaving his large estate to fund training in automotive restoration.
This seems like a terrible terrible decision to me, but apparently he really likes old cars.

I’m try9ng not to be judgmental but I was filled with judgment.
you seem to know a lot about the Bible, scaredy.
What does the Bible say about passing judgement?
I had planned to read the Bible because we are such a Christian centric society that I feel that I am lacking for not having read it.May 3, 2020 at 6:55 PM #817014CoronitaParticipant
Not sure this is true, but I read Jay Leno is leaving his large estate to fund training in automotive restoration.

Cool, I could use the training to do this faster. Now I know why people who do this charge a lot to do it. What a pain in the ass.
1. Cut
[img_assist|nid=27070|title=cut|desc=|link=node|align=left|width=400|height=300]
2. Spray Adhesive (what a mess)
[img_assist|nid=27071|title=spray|desc=|link=node|align=left|width=400|height=300]3. Roll, baby, roll. Then trim, and finish.
[img_assist|nid=27072|title=trimAndFinish|desc=|link=node|align=left|width=400|height=300]Stretching the damn thing around curves was a royal pain in the ass, also while working before the adhesive cured in 30 minutes….Working too fast, leaves wrinkle marks…..Arghhhh…. My hands hurt. Not doing this again, hopefully for another 20 years. lol
Now if I can only find the bag of bolts and nuts that I took off about 3 years ago, and before I moved to my new place…..Projects seem to get put on hold and I procrastinate over more important things…until now…
May 3, 2020 at 8:18 PM #817016svelteParticipantI love old cars. They are very close to my heart.
I’m a regular at Concours d’Elegance. Canceled this year, btw.
But I decided long ago I’d rather others deal with their upkeep and restoration. I’ll just be an admirer who pays admission to the shows.

For me, it’s the fun of getting it done, as long as it comes out right. I think time spend with my labor hours, it would be cheaper if I paid someone else. But at the same time, I would never spend real money at old cars that have no financial value. It’s not like any of my cars would appreciate lol.
Painting is the only thing I can never get right. I keep practicing but I always mess it up. I think I need to figure out how to put together a paint booth. It’s hard to where I live. And it sucks all we can get is the low VOC paint in CA because some of the better quality paints don’t come in low VOC flavor. I feel like I am already retired, doing all these things during covid lockdown only better. by the time I’m 65 , my hands and arms will probably too fragile to work on things anymore. That will suck. Hopefully someone puts a bullet in me when that happens.
Hey more skills to put on my resume… Oh, wrong set of skills…. damn… I should be reading about software and AI….more useful stuff. Meh, I’ll let the Chinese figure it out. They’ll be better at it then me.
I’m suppose to be helping put an app together for a few demos tomorrow for a few customers. Supposedly to assist contact tracing and social distancing so businesses can reopen quicker….I’ll get it done over the next hour or two…And I’ll let my engineers finish the rest tomorrow. lol
May 7, 2020 at 9:23 AM #817063phasterParticipantanyone else come to the the conclusion this pandemic is essentially a no-win situation???
basically there are choices BUT no choice leads to an obvious net gain, so the best approach is to look for ways to mimimize losses and/or look for unconventional alternatives?!
IOW collectively we’re stuck between a rock and a hard place, so because we’re all interdependent meaning all the money in the world is useless if ya can’t buy anything (for example if food production labor gets sick and supply chains completely break, basically having more money is useful up until the point there is no more food, don’t think it will ever get to this point but hopefully ya get the idea)
thought I’d point this out because locally we see,…

County Unemployment Numbers Pass Great Depression LevelsThe San Diego region’s estimated unemployment rate has risen to 26.8% amid the coronavirus pandemic, a high not seen since the Great Depression, according to a report released Wednesday by the San Diego Association of Governments.
The report was prepared with data from April 18-25, before Gov. Gavin Newsom issued an order to open some retail, manufacturing and logistics businesses this Friday.
BTW w/ cushing OK, along w/ other oil storage tanks almost full, and w/ the USO “etf” restructured w/ four month contracts to try and keep the shale producer wells open (because if those wells are capped its going to be really hard to restart production), have ya ever thought about the global equity and capital market implications???
IOW the USO “etf” might go to zero because it acts like a stock, but the future contracts act like a credit default swap (w/ in the “etf” ) so have have to wonder who is going to eat the financial losses??? AND another big unanswered question is are there credit default swap derivatives on the future contracts (which would only magnify the problems)

Buyer Beware: Retail Investors Buying USO’s Oil ETFThe United States Oil Fund, or USO, is an exchange-traded fund, or ETF, that is designed to track the daily price movements of West Texas Intermediate, or WTI, light, sweet crude oil. The firm’s website describes the investment objective as, “daily changes in percentage terms of its shares’ NAV to reflect the daily changes in percentage terms of the spot price of light, sweet crude oil delivered to Cushing, Oklahoma, as measured by the daily changes in price of USO’s Benchmark Oil Futures Contract, less USO’s expenses.”
The ETF was doing a very good job of that until April when the oil market became very oversupplied due to much lower demand and the supply spigot not reacting fast enough. Due to the rapid fall in oil prices the fund has fallen substantially and underperformed its objective. Last Tuesday it affected a reverse 1 for 8 split, which is never a good sign for an investment.

Credit Suisse Lures Traders to an Oil Bet Linked to USOCredit Suisse Group AG is doubling down on an oil trade linked to a fund at the epicenter of the historic price crash.
The Swiss bank is cashing in on the infamy of the U.S. Oil Fund LP, known as USO. It’s issuing fresh shares in a note that lets clients bet the $4 billion product will see calmer days after its 80% plunge this year.
Using what’s known as a covered-call strategy, the X-Links Crude Oil Shares Covered Call exchange-traded note, ticker USOI, is structured to outperform if USO stays locked in sideways trading. A prospectus published last week showed the bank is adding 2.2 million shares, worth $54 million at their stated principal amount. The note’s indicative value on that date was around $4 a share, which would make the offering worth around $9 million.
The world’s largest oil ETF captured headlines last month after retail investors got burned with ill-timed bets on a crude rebound. Amid negative prices, USO was forced to re-tool its methodology and took other extraordinary steps to prevent shuttering.
May 7, 2020 at 9:37 AM #817064SD TransplantParticipantI like gardening, so I just added 4 new fruit trees to my collection (I’m up to 35 now). What I have observed lately, the long lines at nurseries and home depot gardening department are pretty crazy ( the stock of organic soils I’ve been buying is gone). It might be due to the supply chain, but I haven’t seen anything like it in 10 years since I’ve gotten serious about gardening. Lucky enough, I planted my raised beds before this COVID deal started, so I don’t have to buy greens/salads at all.

People are home and can’t go out to do things over the weekend. So it’s either hobbies, home improvement, cars, or for those that are single, watching porn since it’s not like you could easily get on tinder or Instagram for a quick hookup these days… I’m pretty sure the porn industry is doing well too.

If you really think that people who consider themselves to be in low-risk groups aren’t dating, then I have a bridge to sell you. If I had a dollar for every “my roommate brought someone home” complaint that I’ve heard, I’d be rich.
May 7, 2020 at 11:28 AM #817068FlyerInHiGuestPlaster, no win? Why not?
It only takes 2 weeks to kill the virus. China did it, and they’re open for business. Disney in China is about to open again.
May 7, 2020 at 12:00 PM #817072CoronitaParticipantlol. dating..ok, if you say so…
