It is possible, but not easy, to eat healthy at fast food places. Order a hamburger PLAIN. You’ll get lean beef and a bun–necessary protein and carbs. Skip the mayo-laced sauce, gloppy cheese, fries, soft drink, etc. Bring your own apple or orange for your “drink”, or get a free water, maybe your own peanuts, and voila, a complete meal for under $2.
The downside is the dirty looks from the order-taker.April 6, 2009 at 7:39 AM #376953EconProfParticipantIt is possible, but not easy, to eat healthy at fast food places. Order a hamburger PLAIN. Usually at some places like Inn-N-Out burgers you can get burger in lettuce with no cheese and just have tomatoes, lettuce and pickles with some mustard.
I do like El Pollo Loco but very expensive and get the grilled chicken without anything else when I have coupons. Very tasty and healthy.

when you eat out, make sure you share the meal. no appetizers and no desert.
ask any 80 year olds out there, they’ll tell you portion size today compared to 50 years ago are twice the size. 50 years later, Americans are also twice the size. you do the math.
me and my wife always share an entree when we eat out. our daughter’s kid’s meal would last her 3 meals.
I don’t like Adkins. we evolved to like carb, that is how we are programmed. go with whole grain carbs but you can’t eliminate carbs, it is not realistic.
we also evolved to walk. so if you are not walking 40 minutes daily, you will gradually head toward obesity.
