Participant

OK I give up. While we’re on the subject of abortion, here’s something I never knew before. It was always my impression that most abortions were performed while the embryo was just a ball of cells. Actually, you can’t get an abortion until you are about two months into a pregnancy so that they can see what they’re looking for before they remove it. Anyone here who has kids and has seen ultrasounds, knows how well developed a fetus is at two months. Pretty sad.
R: Clinics and doctors vary on how soon you can get a first-trimester surgical abortion – usually it’s 6 weeks after your last menstrual period

I was talking about surgical abortions. I drove a friend to planned parenthood about 15 years ago to have an abortion (before I had my own kids and became more sensitive to the issue). The doctors made her wait until she was 8 weeks pregnant before they would do it. I’m not sure if they had the abortion pill at that time.
