WRX is an understeering, front-heavy pile of porcine detritus. BRZ please, k’thx.
Only once they get the AWD that has been intermittently proposed. WRX’s weight balace is 60/40, not good but not too bad. BRZ’s 53/47. The heavy nose is not too good for long drifting corners, but is more useful on sharp corners that you would see on an ‘autocross’ type meet at the Q parking lot. Only thing is, would the AWD on the BRZ change the weight balance to be like the WRX’s.. You would need to add a transfer case + front drive shaft + front diff.January 23, 2017 at 10:59 PM #805090spdrunParticipantI prefer to keep things as simple as possible. Good ‘ol RWD and manual transmission, no complex, heavy AWD crapola. Simple, light, and a bit gutless.

What about buying Subaru. Mod a WRX and use it on the track? (oops – don’t completely know about Qualcomm now – with the latest soccer proposal)
I am contemplating a BRZ since the days of Qualcomm Stadium are numbered and track day in Palms Spring is best with a real roof and rollbar. Some guy I know rolled his RS4 on track, and that convinced me not to do this in an open car. Plus if I did total a BRZ it’s not nearly as bad as totaling something german.
And, I figure if I get one now, it becomes my kid’s beater in 6-7 years 🙂
BRZ also has a plenty of CARB legal supercharger kits, heh heh… Still the ND drives better imho.
I think I could probably get a BRZ for around $25.5 plus tax. With the racer discount for Mazda, the miata would be about $1000 more roughly.

Nothing in 2018….I’m told. Though, the parking lot is really in bad shape now with a lot of potholes…Part of the reason why my miata caught on fire. Jarred one of the fuel lines right off going into one, and that sprayed fuel right onto a hot surface….boom….
Glad it was a $2000 car + some mods…Could have been worse with a german car.
Cost me $200 to fix in parts + my cheap labor.Hmmm. Just did a price check on a BRZ.. Getting one stripped (Premium) they are around $24.5k.
For about $2k more, I could get Limited which includes
– Alcantara seat inserts with leather bolsters All-Weather Package (dual-mode heated front seats, heated exterior mirrors)
– Dual illuminated visor vanity mirrors
– Dual-zone automatic climate control system
– Fog lights
– Front door courtesy lights
– Keyless Access and Start with illuminated engine start/stop button
– Rear trunk spoiler (body color)
– Security systemBut for a track car, maybe not needed and move that $2k to something else.

Rolling a RS4? How did he manage to do that? Dip + corner? The track is also best with a car you really don’t care that much about… (or at least the external appearance)
January 23, 2017 at 11:27 PM #805096spdrunParticipantFigure 10+ years for the Chargers to move out, the next recession, an EIS (apparently, the ground may be contaminated due to the tank farm next door), planning, and general NIMBY crap.
Just because there’s a proposal doesn’t mean it will happen quickly.

Whatever twist of logic it takes to prop up your superhero.
January 23, 2017 at 11:36 PM #805098anParticipantWho said anything about quickly? This is the government we’re talking about. It takes 3 years to build a neighborhood park, from planning to completion, so why would you think anything would move quickly when it comes to the government?
Which would be a damned shame. The current crop are the best sub-$30k cars made by any company, anywhere. IMO.
An ND will always trump (sorry) a BRZ on the track simply because of the extreme weight difference. Every mod you throw at them will have a bigger impact on the Miata. I do prefer a hard top, and the BRZ is a blast to drive, but it also bugs me that you can’t throw a rock without hitting an FRS these days. It’s the main reason I couldn’t bring myself to buy a Mustang, even though I like the new GT.
The RF would be an option if not for having the additional weight in exactly the wrong place, and the disturbing pulsing buffeting that occupants apparently endure with the top down.

I remember seeing this video.. I guess this is the guy?Don’t lift throttle an true AWD car when sliding sideways. Throttle affects both back and front front tires. You can actually apply power turning into the slide to straighten the car – though it is freaky to do when sliding (vectored thrust – like on a boat in water, also the same thing drifters do in AWD cars)
