Nothing stopping the Feds from charging the cops with civil rights violations. Double jeopardy doesn’t apply since they’re a different jurisdiction and the offense is different.
January 13, 2014 at 9:43 PM #769737ucodegenParticipantThe dominate collective culture of Orange County California which is racist, hateful to those who are homeless/economically disadvantaged and full of small minded gun loving jesus loving boot lickers. Temecula has an element of the OC “white trash/ultra conservative” mentality as well.
You have no clue. This conservative, pro-gun, ‘white-trash’, ‘uneducated’, ‘inbread’ individual despises the verdict. While you claim to understand the ‘conservative mind’ and individual, you don’t. In fact your portrayal of their ‘anti-government’ attitude is in direct conflict of your portrayal of their liking authority(boot licking). You can’t argue black and white at the same time.
— I suspect the prosecution failed, didn’t try. Unfortunately the prosecutors office and police department are often too closely associated. The jury can only go on what is presented.
NOTE: The reason some ‘ultra conservatives’ are so strongly against gun control is because they feel that personal ownership of firearms are the last bastion against a government gone tyrannical. BTW: Police department, FBI, NSA are all extensions of the executive office of the government. Congresses and Senates are extensions of the Legislative and Judges/Courts are extensions of the Judicial. Make sure you understand the structure, chain of authority and interrelations before you point blame.January 13, 2014 at 10:08 PM #769738paramountParticipant[quote=ucodegen]

I know exactly what I’m talking about, IMO you are seeing ideologies linearly. And I know plenty about white trash unfortunately.
Please see exhibit A below.
Orange County is full of white trash ultra right winger authoritarians.

January 14, 2014 at 8:31 AM #769742zkParticipantNot sure about the politics of it, but I agree it’s a sad day. Those bastards murdered Kelly Thomas. And they should be in prison for the rest of their lives.
Cops have tough jobs. Sometimes they have to make life-and-death decisions and sometimes they only have a fraction of a second to make those decisions. Sometimes they get those split-second decisions wrong. In those cases, the cops need to be protected from prosecution. Nobody can get every split-second, life-and-death decision right.
This, obviously, wasn’t like that.

While not stated in the constitution (which has been rendered nearly worthless…), any american even remotely paying attention is no longer free to live without fear of the govt, fear of the police.
January 14, 2014 at 7:40 PM #769754spdrunParticipant^^^
Were we ever free to not live in fear? Kent State? Ludlow Coal Massacre? Birmingham ’63? Tompkins Square Police Riot? Johnny Gammage? Need I go on?

True, and this verdict will have far ranging and affirming implications. This is a jury with blood on their hands.
It’s not unlikely that you or you’re family could be stopped in LA County or Orange County (even while obeying the law…) and assume you have no rights/justice, your life and dignity as a person means nothing – and you or you’re family could be killed for next to nothing.
Orange County California is a shit hole in just about every meaningful way. It really is…
california has a created an environment where it’s open season on john q public, all psychopath’s encouraged to apply to get your badge/hunting license today.
california: you will pay with your wallet, and you may also pay with your life.
January 15, 2014 at 8:04 AM #769763spdrunParticipantWhat’s your obsession with Orange County hatred? The county doesn’t hire cops — individual towns do, and it varies by town. Some may hire thugs and incompetents, others may vet their applicants better.
And I’m sure that there are many places with brutal cops outside of Orange County, CA. BTW – I don’t think the problem is anything new in California. LAPD had a reputation for nastiness and corruption likely well before you were born — 20s through 60s.
I know a few people who grew up in various parts of OC — they seem like decent people to me, not trashy or whatever you think of them.
January 15, 2014 at 8:06 AM #769764scaredyclassicParticipantThe average cop is a decent person.
January 15, 2014 at 10:59 AM #769768AnonymousGuestThe average person is decent person.
In a civilized society, people who say they are “going to fuck you up” and then proceed to take action that takes another’s life are not decent people. They are criminals.
January 15, 2014 at 7:32 PM #769786spdrunParticipantLooks like one of the cops wants his job back, and is suing to get it back…

January 15, 2014 at 7:54 PM #769787NotCrankyParticipantDecent is a pretty broad range in my book. Not really that bad or good just not a monster or a saint. I would like my cops to not be on the low end of decent but the system seems to demand that most be that way….so this slippage to the dark side is inevitable.
January 16, 2014 at 10:33 PM #769809paramountParticipantAnyone know of a good iphone/android app that will record evidence and upload it to the cloud (realtime)?
For example: If you get pulled over you press a button on your iphone and document the incident *to the cloud*.
January 17, 2014 at 9:16 AM #769813spdrunParticipantBambuser and Qik have this functionality. Also, various ACLU chapters have released mobile software.
