I’ve always been kind of squeamish about prostitution. Felt judgmental about johns, like there was something maybe sad about them. I’m sexually uptight I guess.
So i read a comic book/graphic novel this weekend called PAYING FOR IT; a memoir of a john by chester brown.
it’s autobiographical, about a cartoonist who decides to give up on “possessively monogamous” relationships and just go to prostitutes.
One, it’s a great, moving, funny, highly thoughtful book.
Two, it’s the first book I’ve read in a while that’s actually changed my mind about a subject in a big way.
If prostitution is on your mind for any reason–read this book! might push you toward decriminalization.
I prefer to just string women along and let them go. I guess I am the kind of guy who ruins it for the nice guy, but at least the women I date get something out of it. Yes, they get my generosity. I guess you pay for it anyway you look at it. The best women to string along are the foreign women especially from South America.

Why not use prostitutes instead of “stringing women along”? Seriously, it would probably be cheaper, more honest, and fewer people would get hurt.
IMHO, it’s totally cool to have relationships that are “just for fun,” but only if you’re being honest about it. If you’re not being honest with these women from day one, you ought to consider why you think you’re entitled to treat people that way.
being honest often doesn’t work well, as a matter of male-female relationships. people tend not to want actual radical honesty.
probably a lot of guys would prefer prostutes. but there is a lot of social stigma associated with it, as demonstrated in that book. Also you can get arrested.
im not sure why prostitution is actually illegal anymore.
1. Make daughter independently wealthy so she doesn’t need to depend on a stupid guy..

Love this comment, flu. I have noticed that also my DH has become much more in favor of women’s issues since he has had a daughter…brings it all into perspective, doesn’t it.
