ParticipantI’m not sure what you’re trying to do, but I would take the train to downtown LA, and then the FlyAway shuttle to LAX.

ParticipantWe use AVIS since it’s walking distance from our place, but last time we went to LAX, we used AVIS on the way up and Alamo on the way back. Way better than using a shuttle, and relatively cheap too! With AVIS, when you drop off at the airport, they meet you at the car with a scanner, so you don’t even go in, you just hop on the shuttle. Don’t know how the other rental places are though.

ParticipantThe train + flyaway bus is OK if you don’t mind the long time it’ll take. Renting a car is also a pain: you have to go the agency to pick it up, wait for them to fill up their computer screens, put up with their hard sell for additional insurance, etc. And when you get to LAX you have to drop it off, then wait for the rental agency shuttle to take you to your terminal.
I’d just take the door-to-door airport shuttle, or fly from SNA even if that means foregoing a non-stop flight. Unless the fare difference is so high that I’m happy to pay for the shuttle.
How much can you save with the rent vs. shuttle? Ten bucks?

ParticipantThis doesn’t look so good. I am going on a 22 day trip and can get long term parking at LAX Self park near the airport for $3.50/day which would cost me $86. Shuttle is $60 each way. Perhaps I will just drive. Train is not an option since I have to leave Irvine at 5pm and catch a 9:15pm international flight at Tom Bradley.

Anyone heard of this place?

ParticipantHertz will let do one way but I beleive ther is a 25$ drop off charge.
You can also contact Enterprise rent a Car. Often time they will offer to match or beat any deal that you find. You may want to let them klnow you ahve found a company that is willing to waive the charge and see if they will match or beat that.
