Interesting. I guess that in order to be a Jew, you need a combination of DNA, faith and practice in some recognized Jewish institution.
It makes good sense that Jewishness is passed down from the mother. Back in the day, as the Jews were migrating and were chased from country to country, I’m sure they met bandits, pillagers and terrorists.
During the Spanish Inquisition, Catholic soldiers likely killed whole town quarters of men and then raped the women. So it’s likely the DNA got mixed over time.
Once every person’s DNA is cataloged in a super duper computer, scientists will have so much fun playing with the data. We will get some scientific and cultural myth shattering answers.
