Brian, all the smaller European countries speak good English, some better than we do. The Germans do as well, even the French are begrudgingly getting better, or perhaps less resistant to the idea.
I think the insinuation is that right wing terrorism is already here. Wasn’t Timothy McVeigh an anti big government, anti-socialist terrorist?

July 27, 2011 at 10:01 AM #713257NotCrankyParticipantMeeting Christians who are so willing to write others of off for not being Christian is terrifying. I suspect many more hold this right in reserve just below the surface. It is unsettling that propaganda is massively and deliberately used to keep the drums beating in favor of preferred religious angles. And yes, the warm fuzzies between Jews and Christians are succeeding off the propaganda of the masters while it is convenient. The large religions are ecumenical as convenient or necessary only.
It’s different than knowing that other bigots will also write people with significant differences off. It might piss me off that many rich people, or educated people, or skinny people or whatever will write me off, but I don’t feel they are as susceptible to herding together for the sake of dooming nonconformists whenever the their masters push their buttons.
If these religious/patriot terror syndromes were not nurtured undercurrents of societal flows , hideous extremists with related pretexts wouldn’t pop up.

July 27, 2011 at 10:10 AM #713263RenParticipantChristians are mostly harmless these days, dangerous only in the sense that some denominations keep a large portion of the population ignorant (there’s a reason Jehovah’s Witnesses are strongly discouraged from attending college), but that will never stop our progress as a species. For the most part, the smarter people (the ones that matter) eventually come to their senses. Most of these organizations are also slowly but surely changing in the face of the inexorable march of science, because the alternative is to cease to exist. For example, the Christians I know realize that evolution is reality, they no longer believe in the existence of Hell, and their leaders now look at it as more of a mental state than a physical place. They still have a long way to go, though.
I do laugh at the modern branding that has sprung up in the last few years (e.g., “NOTW”, and even better, “TRUTH – Soul Armor”) – desperate and failing attempts to make Christianity look cool and elite. It’s wildly undignified and embarrassing.
