Zeitgeist,
Have you visited Buchenwald or Auschwitz? Seriously? Have you ever spoken to a concentration camp survivor? Have you ever spoken to a Cambodian who fled here during the purge, or any other person who has lived through a governmental massacre? I guarantee you that any one of those people would have given their left leg to live in America, right now at this very moment than live through the stomach churning, mind breaking carnage they witnessed.
Are you seriously putting Obama who will be out of office as a guarantee in at least 7 years in the same field as a man who systematically tried to erase an entire ethnic group or groups?
I know this is pretty pointless, because nothing will change your mind. Keep it up Zeitgeist you only help the other, because you show the absolute ridiculousness of the far fringe right. Your words will only ease the minds that think like you and keep those who differ even farther away.
Sdgrrl: Before consigning Zeit to the rubbish heap of history, I would suggest you do a little research on how the US Government has been systemically chewing into our civil liberties over the last 30+ years, starting with FISA in 1978.
It has been a bi-partisan effort, including Clinton (NSA Carnivore/Echelon programs, rendition, expansion of domestic surveillance programs) and, obviously, Bush (Patriot Acts I and II, warrantless wiretapping, extraordinary rendition). Just for shits and giggles, research how many cameras there are in New York City monitoring your movements.
This isn’t paranoia or the “Loony Left” or a “Vast Right Wing Conspiracy”. Most of this has been done in the guise of protecting Americans, but the reality is an ever more intrusive government with ever expanding powers and the ability to oversee nearly all aspects of our lives, including access to health and financial records.
I don’t think the jump to Nazism is quite as big as you imagine, unfortunately. As Sinclair Lewis said in his 1935 novel “It Can’t Happen Here”: “When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross”.
Obama has invoked Jesus far more than Bush. True story, look it up.

Comparing Obama to Hitler is as cliche as it is stupid.
And it is a silly jump.
Granted you have said a few doozies (eg: “Vietnam was a good idea”, “we won Vietnam”, “the Chinese cannot be trusted”) but Obama to Hitler is a new one for you.
As with the other silly remarks, there is a grain of truth in it (he is, by definition, politically ambitious with an active agenda) but this is as inane as it is illustratively useless.
The difference with totalitarian regimes (as opposed to authoritarian, oligarchic, or democratic) is that they legislate what you think. Putting cctv cameras in public places does not even register on my paranoia radar. If you start postponing elections or listening to private conversations between citizens, that is different.
