I just donated to Brady campaign.
Who else can I donate to?
The good thing for gun (responsible) owners is that the gun control crowd does very little other than type a few words, call people names, and donate a few bucks. Responsible gun owners have been preparing for years, with gun training, gun safes & locks, ammo and gun purchases, etc.
Yes keep telling yourself that. Its a free country – everyone has a right to live in denial.
The funny thing is I used to be middle of the road on guns until last month – until I heard NRA. Now I have concluded that NRA are thugs and we need another thug in the town.

As for the name calling – there is no shame in telling truth.

Never appear angry; it’s scary!

Quote: “A very small number of people paid a very large amount of money to get these guys into office to carry out the agenda they have in mind and if they don’t comply, they’re out. And this brings us back to why our Constitution and Bill of Rights is so important”.
———————————————–Paul,
I very much agree with you that the way some politics are bought in this country by the lobby seems to undermine our democracy. People from both parties, democrats and republicans could be found guilty of this practice.
This topic that we are focusing on is about gun control. And on this topic, let me ask who is the biggest special interest lobby that has been successfully steering the many US politicians on gun control. The greatest lobbyist is the NRA and it is them who acted the way that can be seen to undermine our democracy, very close to what you stated: “paid a very large amount of money to get these guys into office to carry out the agenda they have in mind and if they don’t comply, they’re out”. I have read about how the NRA influenced the politicians with their money and bullying tactics.
In general, like you I believe that the Washington lobbies and special interests should be further out of our government’s arm. In specific, I believe that the overwhelming and powerful NRA special interest should step back from strangling our politicians and government .
In the topic of gun, it is the NRA, a special interest and minority group which has been steering the politicians and the rest of this nation on how to deal with gun accessibility in spite of all the consequences of gun misuse to society.
So, it appears to me, if one cares about the “Constitution and Bill of Rights” and our democracy such as you, it makes sense for one to fight against special interests such as the NRA in its profound intrusions into the workings of our government.
January 16, 2013 at 10:24 PM #757875Paul0373ParticipantFirst, I just want to point out that America is not a democracy.. It is a Constitutional Republic. Why is this important? A democracy is a one-vote system and a Constitutional Republic is a 3-vote system. Three votes to check tyranny, not just one. Our Founders knew to put in multiple layers of safeguards as legislators would invariably, over time, seek out ways to chip away at the freedoms that we enjoy.. which is another reason why the 2nd Amendment is in place. That is truly the last line in the sand and the final safeguard to our freedoms. Now, about the NRA as a lobby group. In short, I’m fine with it. The Constitution is the law of the land and I think it would be great if we had a lobby group as powerful as the NRA to protect all of our freedoms. Instead, our leaders continue to unlawfully sign away or try to sign away our rights to privacy with warrantless wiretapping, indefinite detention, UN weapons ban treaty, etc.. all of this goes on unchecked.. whose lobbying for our other rights other than the 2d Amendment?? These things barely get mentioned iif they get mentioned at all by our talking heads government sponsored media. Appreciate the thoughtful debate KIBU.
January 16, 2013 at 10:32 PM #757876scaredyclassicParticipantNRA admittedly has some good points here re; banning sales of ammunition to people on killing sprees…
i was persuaded by the argument that even if you’re in the middle of killing your family, a burglar could break into your home during your assault on your family, so you need unfettered access to ammunition…
biden apparently wants to limit sales of ammo only to “blood-soaked maniacs”, but really, once, we start drawing the line, where do we stop? better safe than sorry! I’m convinced! where can I get a good deal on a mossberg?

April 7, 2014 at 2:17 PM #772590NotCrankyParticipantI think I should move. I live in guntard central. I am in the minority. I just wanted some space. 20 acres is too much….people think they are on the African Savannah or something, at least half of them shoot on a weekly basis or more often. I think big properties go to people’s heads ….properties 600 feet wide X 1200 feet long with bullets flying at multiple thousands of feet per second.
One guy hunts our shared fence line for gophers, I trap them, it works pretty well , but where is the sport in that? He got one at 275 yards! Hey , people want to live out here so they can hunt fucking gophers with rifles, what part of that don’t I get?
April 7, 2014 at 2:47 PM #772591NotCrankyParticipantEven where it is legal to shoot the minimum safe distance is considered 150 yards from residential homes, places of business and associated out buildings(pretty much any structure, though I would hate to be shot in my garden or going to get the mail or have my kids shot while playing under a tree). The Sheriff will not enforce 150 yard law at all. This means that politicians will not go against gun owners. So there, I linked my gripe to Accountability, how about enforcing basic laws?
Are you sure it is not a BB gun? Big diff, though many look the same. In many urban areas, discharging a firearm is illegal, even if in the back yard. BB guns usually aren’t.

Did you check, or are you ‘just saying’. Last time I had to deal with it, they were out in force. Nothing like some shooting to get them ‘away from the donuts’.
This means that politicians will not go against gun owners.
This does not agree with facts already in evidence.
Lol, several years ago we considered buying a large property and moving to the country. More space, I reasoned, would give me greater peace and quiet.
But the more we looked at property out there, I started to realize that a large portion of the rural residents had behavioral problems and that’s why they moved out there – they couldn’t get along with their neighbors when they lived in the city!
Shooting, off road motorcycles, large barking dogs, 4×4 monster trucks, weird animals that were never meant to be pets, you name it. When their city neighbors complained, they packed it up and moved to the country.
I feel for ya Blogstar, cuz we almost made the same decision. We’d welcome you back to the city with open arms. 🙂
April 9, 2014 at 7:07 AM #772669NotCrankyParticipantI should have said the politicians will not go against gun owner’s shooting in residential rural areas like mine.
I know the difference between bb guns and high powered rifles.Let’s be serious. My direct neighbor has many guns but mostly uses a very fast but small caliber rifle. Several times a week people are doing heavy shooting with big rounds. I never know when he will bring out something else. The rifle is bad enough especially since he is not target shooting but roaming around “hunting”.
Most the people who shoot regularly shoot high caliber guns, not shot guns which I think would be reasonable….the targets for these rifles are in plain sight of everyone.
I checked to see if that law could be enforced, not for any specific neighbor. I wanted to know. 150 yards! Some live on lots that are not really suitable for shooting but they still do. Picture the top of a hill. Others are better situated but not great.
I wrote my County supervisor. Trust me , no one cares. You are welcome to actually investigate wether or not this shooting is being enforced. You can come out and shoot on my property this weekend. You will probably see and hear other people shooting. It will be at about dinner time as we sit down with my wife and kids.
April 9, 2014 at 7:14 AM #772671scaredyclassicParticipantpeople like to think theya re bigger than they are, property wise. we live in a pretty small lotted area, couple acres, but people act like they have a “ranch” in the “country”. umm, dude, there’s a walmart within quick jogging distance….just because there is potentially room for one or two horses doesn’t mean you live ona ranch.
i think we are born with a n inability to see the smallness of our lives and selves. or else there is some sort of denial going on.people are nuts…
