You’re jaded because you don’t believe anyone can make a difference, which justifies the old order, a status quo that disgusts you.
Jobs don’t fall out of sky. There has to be training programs and most importantly appropriations by Congress. Obama proposed a jobs program.
It was fake. I don’t believe anyone wants to make a difference…yet. Unless a poor black guy gets shot in a purple state that humiliated Obama 2012.September 17, 2014 at 4:26 PM #778164NotCrankyParticipantBg, the demographics shifts that you speak off in Ferguson sort of defends the poor racial representation on the police force as might other things.
25 years ago 1-4 black to white, now 2 out of 3, so that’s fairly rapid as you say. Ferguson would probably have to fire decent cops perhaps break the law to keep up….or set quotas for giving all new openings to black people no matter who applied. For all we know few qualified black people applied for what was available and quotas with lower standards could be dangerous. What happened to the amazing african american candidates for the ferguson police force who didn’t get work. What is the history there if any? There must be cases of complaints against a shutout if it existed?
Elected positions come down to the electorate…hard to play the race card there….apathy card maybe.

So what if we decide to select that one black guy to care about? We do such selection all the time, everyday.
You and other people like to lump everything together and dismiss everything as fake and meaningless. Why do you even care about things that are meaningless?
Let me provide an analogy. We could claim that the Pope is a liar and a fake and dismiss everything the Church is doing. That would be so unfair to the countless people who do good work.
I’m not really fond of religion; it’s not for me. But if people want to channel their humanity that way, then it’s all good.
All institutions and political parties have some self-perpetuating, self-serving features. But people do good, meaningful work. Leadership makes a difference. I really like this new Pope Francis. I think the he’s better than previous Popes, at least in communicating the brand of the Church. Even if you want to be cynical, you have to admit that the message itself makes a difference in influencing and motivating people.
September 17, 2014 at 7:47 PM #778167NotCrankyParticipantMissouri was the only swing state Obama lost and he lost in 2012.
I see slimy, jaded, cynical, dirty, politics, making for status quo.No comment on the Pope. You have proclaimed yourself to be an “ends justifies the means type” when it comes to your side of anything…I think that’s cynical, not up to your intelligence, and desperate too. Impossible to argue with.
So now that the grand jury has extended until Jan 2015 What does that mean….
I think Holder knows he has nothing. Not sure, it’s looking that way.
Is that why you backed off wanting to lynch the cop?September 17, 2014 at 10:43 PM #778170FlyerInHiGuestLosing Missouri is not desirable for a Democrat, but hardly humiliating. You’re speculating a motivation of political retribution that’s not there.
The grand jury being extended means that any protests will occur in the freezing dead of winter.
The devil is in the details.
The local prosecutor, Bob Mccolluch controls the agenda. If there’s nothing, then why did he even convene the grand jury? The justice department is investigating the police department. Holder has nothing to with the grand jury.
On the end justify the means… hummm I wonder why there’s so much voter suppression in certain states. Having large portion of the population not voting serves some people’s purposes very well. Not so democratic though.

Even though MO was the (lone?) “purple state” in “Election 2012,” I agree with much of your post, brian. What I’m having trouble with is the “apathy” part but understand why (if “apathy” was truly an issue re: the MO polls).
There’s been a lot of discussion in the past here on the forum that the “red states'” voters (does purple count as “semi-red?”) routinely bite the hand that feeds them when “push comes to shove” at the polls (at least the ones who are actually voting). This phenomenon transcends racial differences.
Based upon my experience, somehow this assumption sounds right to me … even though it’s not logical.
I’m coming to the conclusion that MO was a “purple state” in 2012 solely due to voter apathy. And that, my friends, is a dirty shame.

I just subscribed to Hulu. $8 per month is pretty good. I can now watch the Colbert Report and other comedy.
