OT: Carpeting?

Can anyone out there in Piggyland recommend a good source for carpeting in North County/Temecula?

I know there are carpeting contractors out there who dont necessarily have a showroom – but have access to certain inventory and will install for less than, say, the Depot or other “showrooms” who build in the cost of their operating expenses into the carpet price.

You guys always have great ideas. Look forward to your thoughts.

I have used Craig @ LP Wholesale for a number of purchases ( for rental units and when I was rehabbing ) 858 232-4696, small showroom off of Miramar Road. Also gets a number of overstocks, etc. Can arrange installers – good guys and have done excellent work.

On my last purchase ( about 6 months ago ) of about 130 yards it turned out Lowe’s was the most competitive. Very high quality product at a smoking price. So you might check then out also if they have something on sale. Hope this helps.

I shop for carpet every couple of years and I can concur that Home Depot is a waste of time. Don’t really have a solution for you as I am in San Diego. Just don’t bother with Home Depot. Poor customer service, not good pricing. If you are bargain hunting be careful. Make sure you have references if you buy from someone like you are describing. It could easily become a disappointment. For me satisfaction with the carpet, whatever the parameters, is pretty important. I actually found Cole’s Carpets on Morena to be a good balance of customer service and price for nicer carpets and I use a discount store in Lemon Grove for less important situations but still decent carpet or other flooring. For tile and stone I hit lots of stores. I also get recommendations, relative to the specific job,
from a tile contractor I know(who usually does the install). On the last job he found slate for $2 that I had only found for $5. He also let me know that the price I had found for porcelain tile was as good as it gets.

I always give the carpet install to the same man I have worked with for nearly two decades now. I guess carpeting install isn’t rocket science and many people can do it well. Just a loyalty thing.

Though they are primarily for commercial sales (large volume), they use to do individual retail sales too.

At the time, they had the best price on a specific carpet we wanted to get: Stainmaster Xtra Life Tactesse- Washington Square Ivory, which is a soft berber type carpet.

I think they were doing this for about $30/sqyard include padding and installation, while other places were asking for $33-36/sqyard for the carpet alone (no padding no,install). You could haggle with them as well. They have flooring too, though I didn't put any new wood down. Install was great (not that it's that hard to begin with ). Carpet is great, except with a 2 year old, I sort of regret the Ivory color decision.

That was about 4 years ago though, I don't know if they are still selling to consumers directly.
