200 mi per week is 2-2.5 hours of riding at a reasonable pace on the flat per day. Many people waste more time than that watching the b00b t00b.
If you’re getting up at 5-6 am, hopping on the bike, being done by 8 and at work by 9, it’s very doable.

I don’t think 30 miles in a hour is pro level on a spin bike? I think they would be doing 40 o rmore? In running I am at about 75% of age graded world record for 5k and I only do about 20 miles a week, so why not on the spin bike? World record dude could probably do 50 in an hour on the spin bike so 30 is only 60%. Anyway, like you said the bike could have been broke, but watch it with the double standards for criticizing people, even if we are all joking around.
How about the lady swimming from Cuba to Florida ? 64 years old! None of us is doing too much compared to what people can do.

He felt like anyone (including the ladies) could squish him like a fly if they felt like it. Constant manual work, for instance pounding gourds for hours to get them tender enough to eat. That is how we evolved and what our bodies are meant to do.

Most exercise bikes have different resistance settings — it would just depend on what the bike is set to do, no?
September 8, 2013 at 10:38 AM #765273scaredyclassicParticipanteven at my strongest I had a hard time going 30 mph on a flat with no wind. I’d need to be super tucked and pedaling way hard. hell id have a hard time maintianing 30 on slight declines…
You’d have to getout there with a speedometer to know if you’re really putting out that kind of effort.
even 25 mph on a windless flat is hard work.
kinda like the “nautilus” weight machines. they have weight markingson them, but they bear no real resemblance to how much wieight a person could actually lift.
in the real world, 30 mph invovles feeling like there is a lot of wind blowing at you. unless you have a tailwind, which never actually happens, as cuyclists invariably seem to be headed into the wind.

Don’t really know how the different types of stationary bikes do the calcs. If it is on easy resistance then you just make mileage slower base on rpms, of course. I know from feel and the HR monitor that 20 miles per hour +, on the lifecycle type is hard work and I think it is near legit mileage. The fancy spin bikes, like the one that showed 30 miles, I don’t really know, it’s still very hard work.
No wind resistance on spin bike, scaredy. When I used to ride I was pretty powerful on a bike. I didn’t have a lot of technology on the bike though. I rode with a pro a few times and he said we were doing 32 on a slight uphill approaching Ramona from Lakeside( We came back through wild cat canyon)

Of course. Unless you’re riding with a 30 mph (or equal to or greater than whatever speed you are going) wind or more, the apparent wind will always be in your face.

Either you had come off a downhill, he was pulling your … leg, or it was 32 “Canoock miles” per hour.

There you go with your naysaying again. Must be addicted to it. Have you ever been good on a bike? It was actually 34 come to think of it. That really isn’t that much for a short distance. Don’t misunderstand we had picked up the pace briefly. Averaging that for a longer ride would be elite level even on pretty flat ground.. I think I can hit 34 for a short period still 2O years older. Tomorrow I can do it.Of course if one makes a claim like this on the internet they get what they deserve : ).

here is jan heine’s bike blog, free…not as good as his magazine, but still lots of interesting bikey food for thought.
i love bicycles. but i am slow. yet dogged. i used to love a very long all day tour. i once rode from albuguerque to santa fe and back on one weekend, through back roads east of the freeway…really slow, all day…one fo the great weekends of my life…

Now try not go fucking nuts, because it sure sounds like it. The gym is as much a social experience as about working out. I know, I’ve been going to one for 25 years.
