Dude, you just agreed with me.
He’s conflicted because he so badly wants it to be about race when it’s really about more.
LOL, even dragging Native Americans into it – that’s a novel twist!
But SK’s core point – if you ignore all the tortured asides about race – is spot on:
Cops need to accept a level of risk. It’s the definition of their job. They should not have the option of harming or endangering the public simply to protect themselves.
Cops who choose to harm others in order to protect themselves are criminals, plain and simple. And society should treat them as criminals.
In return for accepting these risks, cops should receive extraordinary respect. They should be heroes, and treated as heroes. But too many choose to be cowards and – what’s worse – almost all cops accept and even defend the cowards among their ranks.

No, it IS about race. And I’m not conflicted at all.
Cops kill too many people unnecessarily.
They kill blacks and Native Americans at almost 3 times the rate as whites.
Blacks are twice as likely to get arrested as whites.
Blacks are twice as likely to be unarmed when killed by police.
Blacks are three times as likely to experience force during encounters with police.
Blacks are four times as likely to be arrested for pot possession as whites.
So it isn’t that blacks are just the first to make a stink about it.

I just wanted this out there for people to read one more time because it is spot on.

Normalize your data against economic background and your numbers won’t be so compelling. Throw in other factors like drug and alcohol abuse, and even less so.
I’m still getting a laugh at the Native American angle. How many Native American deaths are there? I’ll wager not enough to get a statistically reliable sample.
Race could be a factor in these incidents but, like so many other race-related claims it is nearly impossible to untangle race from the other influencing factors: mainly socioeconomic status and cultural bias against law enforcement.
Here’s some advice: If you really want raise awareness about police brutality and lack of accountability – if you really want to promote policy changes that could actually address the problem – don’t veer the discussion into “Native Lives Matter.” Because nobody is going to take you seriously.

what exactly do 2nd am. supporters think such an uprise would look like? would it resemble the sniper in dallas, but a lot more?

But it’s more fun to manipulate statistics or make shit up to fit an agenda.
Don’t forget that males are disproportionately arrested and killed by police, compared to females. Why are cops so sexist?

No, it’s not fun. It’s not fun at all. None of the statistics are made up. Is there an agenda? You bet your ass. Just as you have one for commenting here.
13 Native American deaths out of 569 this year. If it was a one time thing, it might be a statistical anomaly. It’s not.
Do you really think that people of color should die at the hands of law enforcement more often than whites or do you think it’s not happening?
July 9, 2016 at 12:04 PM #799473FlyerInHiGuestCops deserve respect but they are not heroes, not by a long shot. But i understand that the definition of hero is very broad nowadays.
Some of my European friends have said that Americans have an adolescent GI Joe mentality about police, guns and the military. There a lot of truth to that.

So, you agree that cops are sexist and unfairly target males over their female counterparts. See, we agree on something.

Excellent question I ask my friends who are gun nuts. They want to give the police and military more power to profile and arrest potential criminals and terrorists. But what happens when the police wants to take the guns away?
I’m kinda confused with the details in the bible. But evangelicals believe there will be a world government take over and we need guns to fight back. I will get more details when I talk to my born again buddy.

Absolutely. But it isn’t that simple.

Shouldn’t the criminal behavior be ahead of race?
You just don’t get into the database by minding your own business. Sad when so many try to treat the symptoms rather than the problem.
(Problems include: education, work, no father in household, etc. )

Why the need to fight back- I thought true believers would be taken to heaven before all hell broke loose.
