I believe that burying Osama Bin Ladin at sea was the right thing to do.
Muslim tradition requires prompt burial, generally within 24 hours, but American authorities found a way to comply with that requirement while denying his followers a shrine. His body was washed in accordance with Islamic custom, placed in a white sheet and then inside a weighted bag, a senior defense official said. Aboard the aircraft carrier Carl Vinson in the North Arabian Sea, a military officer read religious rites — translated into Arabic — and then the body was placed on a board, tipped up and “eased into the sea,” the official said. Mr. Brennan said that the raid was intended to capture Bin Laden, though those who planned it assumed he would resist. “If we had the opportunity to take him alive, we would have done that,” he said. The killing ended any hope of prosecution.

May 2, 2011 at 7:32 PM #691378jpinpbParticipantI agree w/CE on this.
We were able to capture Saddam, bring him to trial and execute him.
The same should have bee done for OBL.
At a minimum, not give him a burial at sea.
Maybe hang his body in a town square and people can hit him w/sticks like a piñata.Kidding aside, why honor someone so evil w/ burial at sea?
And the skeptic in me wants to see the body.
Maybe we could’ve burned him and then toss the ashes at sea. AFTER the world sees his dead body.Fishy. Appropriate that they added they added the burial at sea component. Fishy.
This is major and the public has a right to see this captured scum dead or alive. I don’t think people’s skepticism about this makes them nut jobs. I find all of this just too suspicious and can’t help but question it. I’ve talked about this w/about 5 people so far. Four of them are skeptical about it. Three actually don’t believe it. And they were a mix of Dems and Reps so not just one party’s opinion.

They got him. Obama did in just a little over two years what the neocons couldn’t do in 6 years.
I think Obama handled it perfectly. He didn’t bomb the house when he first found out about it because he wanted proof of Osama’s death. As soon as he got proof of Osama’s death, he buried the evidence at sea. If Bush had bumbled his way into finding and killing Osama, he probably would have had his head cut off and displayed it on national TV — thus spawning thousands of new terrorists.
On a related note, it doesn’t surprise me that the neocons are already trying to take credit for Obama’s skillful execution of the fight against terrorists.
