ParticipantIt’s also too bad they couldn’t have kept the dynamic seal they had in the top kill attempt, but my understanding of it is that the mud blowing out the BOP would eventually just sand everything down and make tings worse. If it wasn’t for the damage to the pipe, Even if it just made a temporary plug, and the mud had to be continuously fed down there until the relief well is done, it would have been worth it.

ParticipantReading articles this morning… Looks like the cut wasn’t as clean as they wanted – so it will be harder to get a good fit on the cap.
The problem is that if too much water gets in – ice crystals will form – which is what happened with the “top hat” attempt. They need as tight a seal as possible.
It looks like the saw blade that got stuck may have hit some of the “junk” from the junk shot… I would imagine trying to saw through golf balls and shredded tires would not be good for the blade… especially in those temps.
I hope they can fit the cap on tight enough… I really want the flow slowed… but it doesn’t look good.

ParticipantI’m not a sawing expert — does anyone know what they’re doing now? It looks like they got a horizontal cut all the way through, and now they’re making vertical cuts down the side. As soon as they fire up the saw the screen fills with brown dust, so it’s looking like they have to saw a bit, stop, wait for it to clear, then saw some more.
Fuckin’ robots are cool!
